December 11, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi everyone!I have an XML gauge (a simplified version of GPS) that works well on 2D panel, but when I display it on the VC panel, it eats up framerate considerably (MUCH more than on 2D panel) - the whole sim is refreshing in "stutters". This is still FS9...Is there any caveat when working with VC gauges? Are they hard on a processor? Any insight would be appreciated greatly! P3D SpacePort Team
December 13, 200619 yr You have the most dynamic " gauge " in flightsim running , wheneveri have installed that in a VC the results have been the same .My last release reduced the impact somewhat by hiding the gps and deploying the handheld unit from the glove box with the animationinstalling it in a bracket . The screensize of the unit was smaller than default and seems to have had a smaller impact on framerates also for some reason and that in spite of the ground responce animations making the unit jump with the bumps onscreen .So perhaps you could have a popup gps easy to get off and onscreenthat makes it amusing for the pilot just to take a look .The rule of thumb in VC design is to limit the Panel_Decal_ texturesto two 1924's , but using modeled or smooth gauge's in the VC youcan make your panel without any Panel_decal_ textutes at allas in the following file at avsimjeepfs9.zip
December 14, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks!I have since found out that a blinker I have in my code that makes a few display items blink is the cause of degradation...Also, only a GPS gauge does this, and the slowdowns are exactly at the same rate as the GPS info update, approx once a second...
