KJFK SCENERY----YOUR HELP NEEDED!

Recommended Posts

Guest

Well i love flying in and out of JFK Airport and have become very disappointed in the fact that there are no scenery updates out there for it. So necessity is the mother of invention, i have plenty of time on my hands and look to build my own. The Problem is that i have never done scnery before so this is going to be a tremendous undertaking as all of you know. Creating 9 terminals, taxiway signs, hotels, parking garages but i can put in 8-10 hours a day over the next month and i want to get it done, what i need is advice on where i can go for pictures, tutorials, programs anything that can help my attempt and not only learn how to do scenery, but learn how to do it well, i am looking into GMAX but i am not sure, anyway all advice and input is very welcome if this works out, i will to KTEB and from then maybe even take request. Thanks in advance!PROJECT KJFK!

This is a huge undertaking (just be warned)! I am working on a scenery for my first time (KRDU) and I almost feel as if I've bitten off more than I can chew...but not really. Here is what I have used so far:1. Airport 2.60 latest build - Airport layout, taxiways, ramps, etc.2. GMax - All buildings3. The SDK's from Microsoft - I am making CUSTOM textures around the airport area (not totally custom, but pieces of default merged with photos).4. All kinds of various free utilities - Martin Wright (I think that is right) has all kinds of great graphics programs...search for MW Graphics.5. USA PhotoMaps (jdmcox.com) - Satellite photos via Terraserver (must have in my opinion - and a great program)6. Mapquest - has updated color satellite imigery that is very "zoomable".7. A lot of patience. For tutorials, I never could find a great deal. They are scattered here and there and things progress so fast in scenery design that a lot of them are out of date. Airport is fairly easy to get the hang of. The main thing you will be using is the polygon feature. The hardest program that you will encounter will be GMax (I guess). You definitely need to find tutorials for this. I never could get my GMax tutorials to work, but I have 3dsMax (GMax's parent program) and I did a lot of tutorials for that and most things are translatable to GMax. I would begin by figuring out if you want to change the default airport decal (The green outline that defines the airport boundaries). If you want to change it, I know a technique, passed down from a couple great people. I think it looks great compared with the default stuff. I hope this helps you get started. If you have questions you can post on the forum. There is lots of help here. I've asked a million questions lately. You can also ask me directly if you wish, but my knowledge is very limited. I feel like I need to pay back some of what I have taken.Good luck.
