Texture templates with Gmax

Featured Replies

Dear All:FSDS allow me to create texture tamplates for my 3d projects. Is there a way to create texture templates with Gmax for my 3D projects? Thanks.Alfredo Mendiola LoyolaLima Peru

I dont think there is a template function in Gmax. What I do to solve this is to click on the object I want to texture find out the object properties in the 'edit' tab. Look at the dimensions and use it in pixels eg. if your builing is 30 metres high by 10 metres across then you could use 30 pixels high and 10 pixels across. Of course that is a bit small and wont allow much detail so you can just increase the number of pixels as long as you keep it in proportion, instead of 30:10, 60:20, 90:30 and so on.This only works with fairly simple shapes and not with shapes that have diagonal edges so I just make a reasonable estimate and fiddle with it until it looks right on my object.Hope this helps:-wave

The way I make templates is fairly simple. Select the item you want to make a template for... let say the verticle stabalizer. Hide everything else and in the side view window, turn off the grid. Hit your Print Screen key. Close the gWax project and go to your graphics program and paste from the clipboard. Crop down as required and be sure your paper size is 128x128, 256x256 or 512x512 depending on your own preferances. I am working on a 747-100 for static scenery, less than 2500 faces, and I have "captured" the profiles of all my parts that need texturing in this way and pasted everything in to one 1024x1024 bmp. If you are making a flyable model you will probably want to use more than one texture file.
