Altering FSX "Mask" textures - ideas?

Recommended Posts

Guest player1

The old 32 pixel wide mask etxtures worked fine for FS9 when the terrain textures where limited to 256x256 but with the new 1024x1024 textures the 32 pixel wide mask textures are way to narrow, by this I mean that the end result is the dreaded cookie cutter effect.Beautiful 1m terrain textures, but "blended with too narrow of a mask leaving us the "cut" out look between landclasses.I want to blend them much more...the idea is to change the mask textures from 32x1024 etc. to 64 or even 128x1024.Is this doable?can we still use Martin Wrights graphic tools?or any other ideas?

Hi.I've asked similar questions regarding m-files elsewere recently (see Topic #32228, under the title 'M-files'). As I note there, I did a small experiment in FS9 the other day replacing the 32 Pix files with 256 files. It was only with one set of ground tiles, but I did not notice an adverse effects on performance. Yes, FSX needs better meshing. Such nice ground tiles and such awful meshing properties.Cheers,Matthew.
