MicroDEM to Scenery

Featured Replies

I must be dense, How do I go about it (the easy way preferably)?I have the DEM of the Hudson River Valley in 10 Meter Resolution and want to make it into scenery.

The "easy" way? :)You will need the MS Custom Terrain Texture SDK, available at:http://zone.msn.com/flightsim/FS02DevDeskSDK15.aspThese components are most relevant:* "Creating Terrain.doc" provides an overview of the process* Resample.exe is used to create the mesh file* TMFViewer.exe allows you to view the final bgl mesh fileHow you procede from here depends on the format of your DEM data. Resample can use the USGS NED seamless DEM BIL format directly. If you have converted your DEM data to Microdem format, you will need to convert it to the format the SDK can use. The most recent versions of Microdem can Save the DEM As 16-bit BSQ data, which is the format you need. You can also convert the data using BIGBSQ: http://www.terrainmap.comThe next step is to construct an inf file for Resample to use. MS documentation is not as clear or accurate as it could be, but once understood, the process is trivial.Use the TMFViewer to check your bgl file to see if it looks reasonable before testing it in the sim.You may find some of the information on my website helpful as well.Stevewww.fs-traveler.com

I think my problem in understanding the SDK Docs lies in the fact that I cannot get the Graphics in Wordpad, MS made them so you need MS Word to view the SDK correctly.

Microsoft certainly understands marketing! Here is a link to free Word 2000 viewers you can download:word 2000 viewersI just opened the one of the doc files with Word 2000 with no problem so one of these should work.

Thank You! I have been looking for that, I knew it was out there but could never find it!
