How to make any helicopter ai flyable ???

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi all,I've generated short runways (sized just like helipads - but using the normal rwy type) at two different airports (with two parking areas for heavies at each one) with AFCAD as airport overlays. These are useable with normal aircraft (a/c-type=0) "Cessna" or "SkyCar" in flightplans (TTools) but it's not realistic and also not my intention ;-)So how can I make some helicopter flyable? All heli's (MS Bell206 and 3rd-party included) are inoperable and also not visible on ground (only type=0 aircrafts). Is there a different ai-engine running in the german version of the FS2k2pro?I've read a posting about operable choppers (also Bell206 at meigs) from "SamBob" some times before.Any suggestions???Bernd

>All heli's (MS Bell206 and 3rd-party included) are >inoperable and also not visible on ground (only type=0 >aircrafts). "Real" helicopters (Type 1) don't work as AI. You have to trick FS2002 into this by using a type 0 airfile and tweak it for *very* short takeoff and landing. Some years ago there were some easy to fly helicopters for FS98 that were made like this. It's basicly the same as with the balloons, blimps and airships.>Is there a different ai-engine running in the german version >of the FS2k2pro? I don't think so.>I've read a posting about operable choppers (also Bell206 at >meigs) from "SamBob" some times before. I'm looking forward for this, too. :)ckfly

Thanks ckfly,I've tried to change the a/c-type of the default Bell206 to "0" using "AirEd - Version 1.52" but this older tool has corrupted my *.air file.Is there another way to do this?Bernd

AirEd corrupted your airfile? I've never seen this happening...Changing the type to 0 isn't enough and doesn't make any difference. I wish it were that easy. :)You have to use a *non-helicopter* airfile.ckfly

As I know this ver. of AirEd was designed to edit FS2k *.air files!? Is it really 100% the same as FS2k2??? - But yes, I've heard the Bell has the same model as the FS2k's :-(O.K. I know what you mean but I don't want to have an helicopter flying just like a normal aircraft (short t/o or not) ;-)Hope there are any other ideas what kind of parameters are recognised by the ai-engine in this case. Many thanks for helpingBernd

Sorry Guys,I should have fessed up here a couple of weeks ago. Summer is here and our interest just hasn't been in it. New digital camera, video editing, bike riding,...I got almost all of the way and then I discovered I could not get them to turn when they are in the air. They do all right on the ground when taxing, but they will not turn while flying under atc conditions. It will work okay for hot air balloons, because no one knows for sure where they are going/landing. Hope you can figure the rest out.Use the Goodyear Defender aircraft.cfg and the "Goodyear defender.air" files. Use the mdl for what ever you want to fly, be it a chopper, a balloon, or a brick. Use the proper texture so they are skinned correctly. If you use balloons the size of the required parking space is the biggest. Here are clips from the aircraft.cfg file that I was tweaking.[flight_tuning]cruise_lift_scalar=0.1 //was 1.0parasite_drag_scalar=0.8induced_drag_scalar=1.0elevator_effectiveness=1.0 //was .4 .9 was unstable .6 is too slow of climb too long of roll .75 unstableaileron_effectiveness=1.0rudder_effectiveness=1.2 //was .6pitch_stability=2.0roll_stability=1.0yaw_stability=1.0elevator_trim_effectiveness=0.1 // was 1.0 and 2.0 is too much gainaileron_trim_effectiveness=1.0rudder_trim_effectiveness=1.8 // was 1.0[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]reference_datum_position=0.000000,0.000000,0.000000empty_weight_CG_position=0.000000,0.000000,-18.000000max_number_of_stations=50station_load.0=0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000empty_weight=63.000000empty_weight_roll_MOI=6200.000000empty_weight_pitch_MOI=196200 //was 6200.000000empty_weight_yaw_MOI=6200.000000empty_weight_coupled_MOI=100.000000[contact_points] //Chopper Datastatic_pitch=0.000static_cg_height=2.0point.0=3.000, 7.800, 4.760, -4.750, 1600.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.300, 2.500, 0.600, 0.000, 0.000, 2.000, 0.000, 0.000point.1=3.000, -3.000, -4.760, -4.750, 1600.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.300, 2.000, 0.600, 0.000, 0.000, 3.000, 0.000, 0.000point.2=3.000, -3.000, 4.760, -4.750, 1600.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.300, 2.000, 0.600, 0.000, 0.000, 3.000, 0.000, 0.000point.3=3.000, 7.800, -4.760, -4.750, 1600.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 0.300, 2.500, 0.600, 0.000, 0.000, 2.000, 0.000, 0.000[piston_engine]max_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=0.400000idle_rpm_mechanical_efficiency_scalar=1.000000max_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000000idle_rpm_friction_scalar=1.000000cylinder_displacement=81.350000compression_ratio=8.000000number_of_cylinders=1max_rated_rpm=2300.000000max_rated_hp=20 // was 10 8 works for balloons[propeller]propeller_type=1propeller_diameter=12.07 //was 6propeller_blades=4 //was 2propeller_moi=1.184352beta_max=4.173913beta_min=15.000000min_gov_rpm=2400.000000Here is the "pads" I added at KMDW and KCGX.
