Recommended Posts

Guest Lobaeux4

I'm running winXP pro, and I noticed that I've got a lot of process going on, taking up memory. No programs, just processes, which ones can I safely get rid of when running FS2K2?Joe

Here's a great site that tells you what services are safe to disable. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm If you type sevices.msc into your run box you can see all the different services running. From here you can right click on them and set them to disable ,manual or automatic.

Hi,Be very careful with Black Viper's information give at that site. While I have much respect for his work in that area, Services are highly detailed and complicated with all their inter-dependencies. There may be services that you disable that won't allow you to connect to FTP sites, log on to your computer, remember passwords, disable hardware, etc, etc. I've had more support calls from XP users disabling services and then having problems with their OS in so many different areas that I can't even count. While disabling services can indeed be a good way to save some system resources, you *must* use a good methodology to do so that keeps track of what you've done and the results. Otherwise, there'll be no way to understand what to turn back on if you mess something up while disabling a whole group of services at once.Bottom line: for those that have 512MB of memory or more and are running 1+GHz machines, I recommend leaving well enough alone (maybe one or two obvious services disabled from the default).Just a friendly caution,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif
