fly.ini light intensity values

Does anyone know what the Standard light intensity in fly.ini affects? And is it possible to model a new beacon light to replace the standard wacky tower, perhaps with a larger light mapped onto it?

This is something I was wondering as well. I'm in the process of creating custom models for my home airport, but have trouble creating a tetrahedron (wind indicator). The model is made, and looks great in fly, if I place it as a standard static model. If I put the model into code similar to standard windsock, it ignores my models, and places a standard windsock. Doh! I'd like to create my own custom beacon as well, and am now wondering if it will work. Here's the beacon I will be modelling. Hope it can be done...http://philtilden.com/phil/air/cable/cblbcn.jpg

Hey Eric,I finally go around to modelling the tower the other night, and it works!Assuming youre using Fly! II -1) Place a standard beacon in my scenery where I wanted the new one.2) Make my model, and convert it to .bin format. (ZModeler, or Fly! 2k editor can do this) 3) Extract beach.arm from startup.pod, (it should save in your models folder, if youre using the fly filemanager). 4) Rename beach.arm to whatever you want to call it eg: mybeac.arm5) edit mybeac.arm and replace the reference to beac07h.bin with the name of your custom tower.6) edit your scenery file (eg: data/D00000/*.s00) and locate the section that points to 'beach.arm', replace it with the name of your custom arm.If you want your model to replace all the beacon towers in the sim: Do steps 1 and 2, naming your new model "beach07h.bin", and saving it to the modesl folder. Then skip the rest of the steps.

You're right, it does work; I don't know why I didn't try it earlier. I used Zmodeler to turn the stock tower into a simple four-face pole of the same height, no problem. However, I'd really like to see the beacon light from a long distance, like 20 miles on a clear night. I enlarged the beacon08h.bin model, but that didn't enlarge the light. I guess that's internally coded. What if you made a light out of a vehicle, a two-face square, that you could set to rotate using the dynamic vehicles process? You could make several LOD's such that the near LOD would be a small model, and the far LOD would be big enough to appear 20 miles away. But then could you make it actually light at night?I'm still vexed that the runway lights fade out at 7 miles no matter what you try in fly.ini....

Ahh, youre the one from the other thread! heheWell, Im looking into this at the moment... the whole, "Can we make our own animated model."I'll post back whatever I figure out... I also want to figure out a way to create small obstruction lights, like beacons on radio towers.Im assuming both will be pretty much the same. I need to look into an old Lighthouse that was created for Fly! 2k.And yes, Im saddened that the beacons appear hardcoded now. :(
