Shapefiles for ROTW GPS

Featured Replies

Hi!Yesterday I downloaded the ROTW-PA28 with GPS. Congratulations. The moving Map is really a gem.But it would be nice to have have streets, rivers and roads for Europe (and in my case especially Austria). My idea is to convert shapefiles into the needed ROTW-.dat files. (maybe convert them first with terrashape into Autocad .dxf, which is a plain readable text format and from .dxf into the needed ROTW-Format.)So my Question is: is anybody working on a tool like this ?Harald

Hi Harald,If you've got plain txt databases I can prepare dat file for our gps : let me know by sending a email. Laurent (rotw)PS : for the rivers I've got yet the tool ...

Hi LaurentThank you for you offer.Which file do you need for austrian rivers ?This was just an idea. You can convert every shapefile with Terrashape into Autocad DXF-Files, which are plain textfiles. So befor starting to write such a program myself (maybe in Phyton) I just wanted to know, if somebody has or is already developing such a tool. With such a tool it would be easy for everybody to create the data for his area based on the free Digital Chart of the World Shapefiles.Harald

Harald,I placed in the tutorial file (avsim library) the way to prepare rivers dat files (and the tools).Making roads it's just the same : you can even try it by now !Just call your data road file as rivers.dat and you can have it displayed in the rotw_230 and the next rotw_350.Just keep the rules for the dat file as shown in the tutorial file.Best regardsLaurent(rotw)

Harald,It probably wouldn't be too much trouble to add the conversion to TerraShape. That would save the additional steps.I'll get the tutorial and have a looksee.Colin
