Beginner Questions

Featured Replies

Well, not a total beginner...I used Fly2K for years on my old iMac. Just got Fly!II via eBay for my 12" Powerbook G4. Applied the patch. Loads fine, no obvious problems but hard to tell what will be what while I only have 256 RAM. While I await arrival of maximum RAM, I have been setting up Fly! and have a few questions now - more later.(1) Menubar won't disappear. I tried the fix detailed on this Forum: Went into System>fly.ini>{UI}>added "allowHiddenMenubar=1" at the end of that section. Now what I get is, the space bar toggles me between a fully functional Fly! screen with the menubar and a totally black screen on which nothing appears. Tried it several times to make sure I was doing it right and got the same result. Wonder if it could be due to the graphics card in this PB? Sure would like to get rid of the menubar, I feel it detracts from the realism. (2) Whats the story on additional airport scenery packages for Fly! which are available in the library here? Will the versions which seem to be for Windows (they download in a zip file) work on the Mac version? (3) Maybe I don't have enough RAM but, the ground scenery looks really sparse compared to Fly2K. I just checked out D.C. expecting to at least see the Washington Monument but its mostly just green squares with some blurred boxes which I assume are supposed to be structures. Is this as good as it will get? Thanks for any and all comments.....

Hi and welcome.>(1) Menubar won't disappear. I tried the fix detailed on>this Forum: Went into System>fly.ini>{UI}>added>"allowHiddenMenubar=1" at the end of that section. I suspect that this was introduced in one of the Mac OS X updates that came out since the patch was produced. I doubt if there is a workaround.>>(2) Whats the story on additional airport scenery packages for>Fly! which are available in the library here? Will the>versions which seem to be for Windows (they download in a zip>file) work on the Mac version? Most add-on stuff written for the PC does work on the Mac.>>(3) Maybe I don't have enough RAM but, the ground scenery>looks really sparse compared to Fly2K. Is this as good as it>will get?>In some ways, I think that the scenery for Fly!2k was better than Fly! II's. However, in areas that do have many 3D models, performance under OS X is very poor. Realistically, I don't think you can expect much better from your PB, although more RAM will help.------------------------------Franklin TesslerDP 800Fly! for Mac Co-moderator
