Dash 8 from Plymouth to Heathrow, sunset flight

Featured Replies

Just for fun, here are some shots of an evening flight into storms.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/30098.jpgTaxiing out - this is faked since I didn't manage to get a shot of Plymouth - sorry! I keep my plane in this hangar except when its raining (then I bring it outside since its drier in the rain than in the hangar).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/30099.jpgSun setting, cloud build-up ahead. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/30100.jpgGetting closer to storm. Clouds down to 500 ft at times. I could fly above them but that would be no fun. Safe, yes. Fun, no.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/30101.jpgCouldn't take shots in the storm itself - too dark, rainy, lightning in the distance, but plane quite stable (not like last flight with the Cherokee! - I was sideways some of the trip). Reduced speed to prevent squalls breaking the wings. Here's an edge of a storm cell and Heathrow lights off to the right.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/30102.jpgGroundlooped on landing due to too high AOA meaning lost forward vision at critical moment - and winds were gusty of course. No excuse. Anyway, here's the plane back at the GA Glidernut hangar.Hope you enjoy these for the 43 seconds or so that AVSIM will keep them here! Cheers!

Ground looped? My goodness! Don't try that with the L-13 :-eekOf course, it's harder with one wheel! It's also real hard to steer (on one wheel) when you only have a rudder in the air but you'll get used to it!Anyway, why bother with the high AOA in the Dash-8? Apart from the ample runoff, the Dash-8 has great brakes! I've landed BEHIND a 737 that was just moving off down the runway ;)To be honest, unless I'm on a short strip, I approach at 120kts and leave it there until over the keys. I got this from doing lots of crosswind approaches in it during testing!Oh! Sorry, you've been studying at the Chris Low School of Untrimmed Approaches :-lol That's OK - the Dash-8 has actually received interim approval from the School...PS My tower previews are still there!:-waveJon Point*************************([email protected])*************************
