November 15, 200223 yr Hello group, I have a question. It pertains to using RCATC, or any FS related ATC program, in situations such as I encountered in a RCATC guided flight from SVMI to SEQU in So. America. There was no way I could follow RCATC's instructions for an approach to R35 at SEQU. R35 has a full ILS system so that is why I chose that particular runway. If you follow RCATC they will simply plow you into a mountain. Ok, that's the question that begs some type of an answer. I want to be able to disregard RCATC's commands until I am established on the glideslope which I will do manually. My question is how do you set up the RC adventure so that the pilot can disregard RCATC from point of descent from cruise altitude until your Localizer and Glideslope is alive and still get an official 'Flight Successfully Completed'? I realize that trying to program an ATC so that it takes terrain into consideration is simply too complex and out of the question. I have no problem living with that. I am just looking for a method to both use RCATC selectively and still complete the adventure successfully. I already use the discretionary command to request lower altitude when nearing completion of the cruise portion of a flight as I find RCATC simply doesn't give you enough time, in many cases, to meet the altitude restriction requirement. No big deal here. Simply plan ahead and ask RCATC for permission to descend to a lower altitude. That's fine. I am looking for an answer to my question so that I can use RC selectively for night flights into various airports in So. America. It goes without saying that these flights and approaches should be performed in daylight until one has an understanding of the terrain at each location. Thanks and Cheers
November 15, 200223 yr Blais,Look for "Terran NOTAMS?" in the "Making Adventures" page under Support on the RC site.
November 15, 200223 yr Hi Scott, I really didn't try it this time although terrain Notams worked great on other flights. I was just wondering if there was another way. In the words of OTTO": We'll do it.Thanks
