November 21, 200223 yr Say you've just received your clearance and switched to ground for taxi to the active.....and let's just say that this voice comes on the frequency with the call sign of, oh let's say, Echo Nine-Five. He wants to go look at some pavement. He always wants to go look at some pavement at every airport I go to. Echo nine-five has this obsession with pavement. He just can't get enoough. He talks like a drunken Festus from Gunsmoke and he always wants to go look at some pavement. Question: Can I disembark from my aircraft enroute to the active, jump into Echo Nine-Five's cockpit, and just slap him up side of the head? This my be against regulations, just wanted to check. :)Looking forward to RC3!!!!
November 21, 200223 yr :-lolE95 is actually an airport facility ground vehicle, and that's his job. He makes sure there isn't any FOD or cracks enlarging or anything wrong with the taxiways or runways. It's a full-time job at major airports, with the truck dashing on and off the actives and taxiways throughout the day. The FAA is responsible for Tower ops and aircraft movements on and off active taxiways and runways, but it's the airport's responsibility to make sure the physical airport is safe.Granted, he's also very busy at grass strips, but he's not really looking at pavement - it's just code for "clearing the dandelions." ;-)But what the beck. RC is very forgiving. As long as you don't contact Tower, you can happily park anywhere on the airport grounds, get out, kick the ires, have a smoke, go dancing, or refresh yourself in the dirt if you wish. ;-)
November 21, 200223 yr ahh.... Im not a user of RC (yet)so I didn't realize it was a joke pertaining to the software! Is E95 a fixed designator for such vehicles in real life? I don't spend much time on the ground at big terminals. Either way its pretty cool that you guys have even thought to include ground vehicle chatter. (Im guessing that you have anyway)
November 21, 200223 yr Douglas,No, E95 is one of the ground vehicles that's a standard in the canned chatter, which is actually at Memphis airport. It's like "The Big Dog" (which is only a riot if you had previous versions. Fortunately, that particular exchange is gone in V3).Memphis is the airport that is used as the default USA canned chatter.
November 21, 200223 yr Whoops. And it's been only 4 years I should know this? ;-)(addt'l)At least I got the state right! :-lol
