NETWORKING PROBLEM

Featured Replies

Hi fellows,I am trying to connect RC on a 2nd and networked computer but not having any luck.My network is stable, both systems "chatting" with one another. The server has FS2002 loaded and running. The modules folder contains the latest FSUIPC and WideFS files which I downloaded today from Pete Dowson's site.On the client, I first start WideFS, then RC3. I load a flight plan by browsing and poiting to the flights directory in FS2002 on the Server. After that, I hit "START RCv3" on the RC applet. I get the following in the dialogue area that states "Maybe running on wideclient, but FS not running on Server, or wrong FSUIPC".Any ideas???????Thanks,Michael

Ok, where did all the RC guys go???????? Suggestions anyone?

is your netowrk running dhcp or are you assigning ip's to each of your computers?its a lot easer to get things working (at least for me) if I dont use dhcp and use static ip's on all of them.you need to read the manual for wideview, and add a few lines to the ini's so that it knows where to look for your computers.you also need to have either ipx or tcp/ip running on both of your systems. I only have tcp running on both of my systems, so thats what I told widefs to use.Ok, here are the lines I added/changed to my wideserver.ini file:[Config]Port=8002UseTCPIP=yesServerIPAddr=192.168.1.15your server address will most likely be different, change the line to what you set it as.these are the lines I added to my wideclient.ini :Port=8002UseTCPIP=YesServerIPAddr=192.168.1.15this should point the program to the same computer you're running the server on. They should both be on the same port. This probably isn't the best tutorial, but I was never very good at explaining things. :) I'm sure someone could do a much better job if you need more help.

Hi Michael,In my case sleeping ;-)The problem sounds like one with the configuration of widefs and the network, not an RC problem as such.Do you have any addons running successfully on widefs? As far as network/widefs problems are concerned I can't help I'm afraid. By following the instructions in the widefs manual I got things running on my machine but that's the limit of my knowledge in this area.Sorry I can't be of more assistance,All the best,John

John,First off, thanks for your reply. Appreciated.Secondly, yes I have many other programs running through WideFS via 7 networked PC's. All of the Magenta products utilize WideFS.Thirdly, I finally found the problem after pouring over this what seemed like forever. The problem began as my server is running XP while all the clients are running Win98. Apparently the IPX protocol I had installed was somehow interfering with the TCP protocol. In hindsight, I should have caught this much sooner! Duh...... At any rate, I have it now working fine and yes it did solve the slow wav playing I was previously experiencing with RC3.Thanks again,Michael

Hi Michael,Glad to hear you are up and running.Getting 7 pc's networked :-eekTook me all my time to get two talking to each other.I therefore nominate you to be our networking guru from now on :-lolAll the best,John

Thanks for the kind words John but if had seen me pulling my hair out last night you'd have laughed your butt off. Once I found out what I was doing wrong I even had to laugh...... :)Michael
