June 10, 200223 yr Nice Pics! Man, I wish I could have been there. What a neat old bird the P-51 is. I love to hear them fly by. Thanks for helping me to see one.Ron
June 10, 200223 yr My pleasure, Ron. The low pass the pilot did on takeoff was really something special. I've never heard a more amazing aircraft engine in my life! I will get to see this plane here again this coming Saturday at the Lake In the Hills Air Expo airshow.
June 10, 200223 yr >I've never heard a more amazing >aircraft engine in my life! Me neither!!! Best sound in the world! They say it's a combination of the Merlin engine & the radiator exaust. You ought to hear one from inside during the takeoff run without headphones. It reminded me of continuous shotgun blasts!!L.Adamson-- & P51 Mustangs are still my favorite all time aircraft!
June 10, 200223 yr Not only is the P-51 an incredible aircraft in it's own right, it also saved the lives of many B-17 crewmen in WWII and allowed them to complete their missions. What a plane!David
June 11, 200223 yr That's very true. Some of them also fought in the Korean War as ground attack craft until they were pulled from service in '53. This one reportedly saw action in both wars.
