Little tip for framerate improvement

Featured Replies

Since I received RC3, I've spent more time trying to tweak my settings to get my framerate back than enjoying the program. And today, I found what was the cause of my framerate drop : IPX/SPX.I'm using RC3 on my network computer (Laptop PIII600 196M ram winXP) with widefs, Showtext and of course fsmeteo. My "FSmachine" is an AMD1.4GHz 512Mddram with winxp too.First I used widefs default settings so I installed IPX/SPX on both computers and RC3 on my laptop. My framerate went from 18/20fps on ground to 10/12fps :(Today, I decided to try the network tweaking (after trying many others without success) so I configured widefs with TCP and uninstalled IPX/SPX and big surprise : framerates were back!!So if you're running windows xp and have the same config/problems than I had, just try this, maybe it'll work ;)Best regards,Guillaume

I was going to ask if was possible to run RC3 on a networked machine. I have not a clue about this so please be patient. I have two machines on my desktop networked using TCP protocol. Is it possible to use on of them to run an addon such as RC3? You mentioned some programs like Widefs and showtext. How would one setup a networked system like you describe? Perhaps there is a web site you could point me to.Thanks, bob

I have a dedicated client/server IPX path that I use with both WideFS and WidevieW and have no problem at all. My server sees the outside world via a TCP/IP connection to a 100T router. I'm running XP on both. I think your switch to TCP/IP may have just corrected a bad setting in your IPX config.
