December 18, 200223 yr Hi all, I am finding thAT WHENEVER i am cleared to an altitude to intercept the localizer it is always around 4000'. is this not a little high as it means u will have to intercept the glideslope from above it-not below it as is supposed to be done as I understand procedures. with the FS2002 default ATC at least they always give u an altitude that allows u to intercept the glideslope from below- which is the correct prodeure??
December 18, 200223 yr The final altitude given is dependant upon type of aircraft,in a prop if I recall its normally 2-3000 ft above airport level at about 10nm,in a turbo prop the altitude is higher and at about 20nm.It is normal for the assigned altitude to be below GS at the distance assignedMost approaches are at about 600fpm (some can be as low as 300fpm)-if you are moving at 120kts this means you should be about 1200ft@2nm,2400ft@4nm,4800ft@8nmdouble the speed and double the distance etc.Hope this helpsAshley
