December 19, 200223 yr 1. If I have a flight plan that takes me from the departure airport to the landing airport and do not use flex DP ( no SID included) am I correct to assume that departure will not issue me any heading information after take off?2. Despite pushing the tab up on the "vectors for traffic" I have never had one yet. Is this typical?3.I have no luck in getting ATC to repeat instructions using the default key strokes in RC 3.4. Recent flight KLAS to KLAX gave me vectors that got me to the glideslope at 4,000 feet 15+ miles out, but It did not get me heading toward the runway until 1 mile from airport so I could not line up and land. Ie the intercept to the ILS was too shallow. Greg
December 19, 200223 yr Ref. your #1, If you do not have flex dp checked and you are not using a Departure Procedure, and your first waypoint is more then 30 miles from your departure airport, you will receive departure vectors.Re. #2, Traffic vectors will be given only for simulated traffic, not for AI Traffic. I haven't used it for awhile, but if you push the slider towards MAX you should get some simulated traffic and vectors. JD, is this right?Re. #3, If you have pilot autoreply checked, you can not get a repeat of the transmission. Doing the commwork yourself, you can.Larry
December 19, 200223 yr Greg,>1. If I have a flight plan that takes me from the departure >airport to the landing airport and do not use flex DP ( no >SID included) am I correct to assume that departure will not >issue me any heading information after take off? Departure will not warchdog you if you have Flex DP unless you miss the first waypoint outside the 30nm range from the airport. Without having Flex DP, and with not having a waypoint <30nm, Departure will issue vectors as will Center until Center tells you to resume own navigation - which is pretty much right after contacting them.>2. Despite pushing the tab up on the "vectors for traffic" I >have never had one yet. Is this typical? It's random. Set to maximum (10) and see what happens. Vectors for traffic is strictly for phantom traffic, not AI.>3.I have no luck in getting ATC to repeat instructions using >the default key strokes in RC 3. Make sure you have "Pilot Auto-reply" unchecked. You can't get a repeat if you've acknowledged.>4. Recent flight KLAS to KLAX gave me vectors that got me to >the glideslope at 4,000 feet 15+ miles out, but It did not >get me heading toward the runway until 1 mile from airport >so I could not line up and land. Ie the intercept to the ILS >was too shallow. APC does not vector you to the runway, only to an intercept course for the ILS, or intercept the runway line. It's up to you to know where the runway actually is. However, it depends on your approach. APC won't turn you either way if you are heading the runway heading. It's usually a good idea to have a waypoint somewhere at the FAF so you know where that is. There's usually, but not always, a VOR fix for it. You can use your own navigation to make sure you go to that, even when APC is vectoring you. I do that out of practice just so I know when I should be lining up. APC will turn you loose for hte FAF or ILS far enough out that you can correct.
December 19, 200223 yr Thanks for 1, 2 and 3!I aplogize as I was unclear on 4. I was getting a vectored approach to ILS 25 right. The vectors I got caused me to intercept the ILS about one mile out, not several miles out at FAF, so I had inadequate time to turn to line up with the runway and land.It seems that the vectors to intercept the ILS were too shallow from where I was starting.Greg
December 19, 200223 yr Greg,Without having a dat to look at, I can't really comment. APC will turn you towards the airport, then onto downwind, then base and final, usually fairly far out - 25 miles for jets, 15-20 for props (I can't remember off hand the exact distance for props, but fairly far out). Were you given any vectors except towards the airport? Did you request Short Final? Can you try it again and see if this happens again?
