setting up RCv.3 on my second computer. :-yellow1 I'd also like to have FSFlightMax set up on the second computer. Can anyone tell me how they did this - how to copy files over and the right paths to get everything (FS, RC v.3, FlightMax) to interact properly. Thanks in advance, Adam

Hi Adam,Assumimg you have widefs set up and working the simplest thing to do is to do a fresh install of RC on the second computer. You don't actually need RC installed at all on the first computer. Then check out p.110 (I think it is) of the manual which should get you up and running. If you have any specific problems get back in touch.FSFlightmax works fine along with RC on my second machine. You need to download fmaxremote10.zip from the flightmax site and follow the instruction posted on that site. All the best,John

Hi John,I DO in fact have a problem dealing with my network apparently. I've read Peter's instructions and tried a number of things to no avail. I created a folder C:Program FilesFS on my client computer and put Wideclient.exe and WideClient.ini in it. And put WideServer.dll and WideServer.ini in my GAUGES folder of Flight Simulator on my main computer and now I'm getting this error. Could you please look at the .log file and tell me if you know what's wrong. I can't seem to designate IPX/SPX anywhere in my network. I'm basically confused. Sorry if this is an inconvenience for you. What appears strange is that below it says that the client computer name is COMPUTER 1 But if I click on My Network Places it show an icon and says c on computer2...Computer 2c.Thanks and Merry Christmas, Adam********* WideClient.DLL Log [version 5.30] *********Date (dmy): 25/12/02, Time 02:48:07.340: Client name is COMPUTER 1 16 Attempting to connect now 25 Client socket() failed [Error=10047] Address family not supported by protocol family 1936 Failed to start Client! 3535 Reception maximum achieved: 0 frames/sec, 0 bytes/sec 3535 Max receive buffer = 0, Max send depth = 0 3535 ********* Log file closed (Buffers: MaxUsed 0, Alloc 0 Freed 0 Refused 0) *********

Hi Adam,Can I just check one thing. You say you have WideServer.dll and WideServer.ini in your GAUGES folder. They should be in the MODULES folder. All the best,John

I'm sorry John. It was late last night. The files were both in the MODULES folder not the GAUGES folder.I appreciate you assistance.Adam

I tried it again this morning and it generated a WideServer.log. Don't know if this helps or not. Thanks, Adam********* WideServer.DLL Log [version 5.30] *********Using blocksize guide of 4096 bytesDate (dmy): 25/12/02, Time 03:19:41.720: Server name is COMPUTER 1 66459 Initialising server socket now 66480 Server socket() failed [Error=10047] Address family not supported by protocol family 66480 Failed to start Server! 199320 Restarting failed trigger thread! 384053 Closing down now ...Memory managed: Offset records: 0 alloc, 0 freeThroughput maximum achieved: 0 frames/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 triggers/secThroughput average achieved for complete session: 0 frames/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 triggers/sec********* Log file closed *********

Hi Adam,I'm out of my depth here really. I assume that your network is set up and working correctly so that you can access files on one computer from the other computer.I don't know if this will help but the contents of my Wideserver.ini file are ; PLEASE SEE the documentation for parameter details; ==================================================&l;Config&r;Port=8002UseTCPIP=Yes; -----------------------------------------------&l;User&r;Log=Errors+; ===============================================The contents of my wideclient.ini file are:; PLEASE SEE WideFS documentation for parameter details; =====================================================&l;Config&r;Port=8002Window=38,9,687,587Visible=YesTimeout=20UseTCPIP=yesServerName=evesham; -----------------------------------------------&l;User&r;Log=Errors+; ===============================================evesham is the network name for my main computer (the one I run FS on).You could perhaps try these just substituting the name of your main computer. All the best,John

I will see if I can help you. What is your operating system? Before even attempting to get wideFS running you must have a fully functioning network between the two computers.I am running at the moment at windoes XP-Pro through a Hib but this is not needed.I also run wideFS on TCP/IP protocol. Here are instructions in case you have Win XP.Lets call the PC's PC1 and PC2 by PC1 being the PC with FS2002 and PC2 the future client. When setting up a network on XP call it MSHOME on both PC's and give each PC a unique name. the DHCP handler will assign the IP addresses automaticly. Setting up a smal network under the home wizzard will give you many hours of fun, for some reason it screws more up then it does it right. Then make sure that you set a password for yourself on each PC on the logon screen. Without this you cannot fully share the drives on each PC. I just use password "1".Then follow the following step on each PC Go to the control panel and open administrative tools. Double click local security policy Open security options Scrol down the left hand listing and find: "Network access: sharing and security model for local accounts" Double click this and set to classic. close.Next go to my computer - and right click on "each' hard drive (one at the time ofcourse.Go to the sharing tab and click on new share - Give the drive a name, like PC1-CDrive, up to you. then Go to permissions and give all full access Ok it and close. Do this for each drive in each PC.Reboot bove PC's - Log on - wait a little and now you will be able to look in explorer at both PC's drive and directories.Only when this fuly works you can start setting up wideFS.Copy the wideFS server dll and its ini file to the FS modules folder.Open the ini file and set it as follows:; PLEASE SEE the documentation for parameter details; ==================================================;[Config]UseTCPIP=Yes; -----------------------------------------------[user]Log=Errors+; ===============================================Then create a new directory in the C drive of the client PC called WideFS and copy into it the wide Client exe ind its ini file.Open the ini file and edit it to look like this:; PLEASE SEE WideFS documentation for parameter details;=====================================================;[Config]UseTCPIP=YesServerIPAddr=169.254.178.4Window=32000,32000,160,34Visible=Yes; -----------------------------------------------[user]Log=Errors+;=============================================== NOW NOTE THE SERVER IP ADDRESS - this must contain the address of your FS PC.Go to your FS PC - Open My Network Places Open view network connectionsnow you will see on the right hand side Local area connection. Left click on it and on the left hand bottom the IP address will appear.Put this number in your client ini file after the ServerIPAddress.Start FS and when running start on the client wideclient.Wideclient should show connected.Only when this works you can use your run and kill options as you wish.if wideclient does not show connected then there is no point in trying any further because you have no LAN connection.JackPS I still have not received my RC3 CD. they have send it to my UK address and I live and work a long way from there.Merry Xmas

Hi Jack, I have WinMe on my server computer and Win98 on my client. I had my computer into the computer store and they set up a LAN for me. I can copy files back and forth so I assumed the LAN was properly set up. I followed Peter Dowsons instructions as far as putting all the WideFS files in the proper places. I created a folder just called WideClient (C:Program FilesWideClient)on my client pc and put the WideClient files in there. I put the WideServrer files in my MODULES folder of Flight Simulator.Should I try the parameters you suggest above even though I have WinMe and Win98?Thanks Jack and Merry Christmas!Adam

Adam,Let me try to help you:as you explained, your network is ok. Do not change wideserver.inior wideclient.ini. Start FS on server, wait until it is running.Next start wideclient.exe on client. Do not minimize this window.Wait for a few seconds. Do you read 'connected' in fs window titleand in wideclient window title?Merry ChristmasStephan (EDDM)

Hi Stephan, I thank you very much for the help. I will be off the net for a while due to Christmas calls, but I will try your suggestion and then get back to you later. Thanks again!Merry Christmas to you, Adam
