Missed Approach

Featured Replies

Merry Christmas everyone.RCv3, is just fantastic a brilliant job, but I had a problem on finals yesterday.I was lined up on a vectored ILS to runway 14 at Anchorage and had already called visual with the field. It was night with good vis and at about 1.5 miles out I saw a Cessna pull onto the runway and start its take off roll.I pulled my Alaska 737 into a go around and expected RC to give me the missed approach option. It never came. I was 5 miles down wind climbing away when RC finally told me to 'go around' as it had noticed my gear was up on short final. It was up by then, but I was ok on my final approach. Still RC refused to give me any vectors or missed approach back to the ILS and I ended up an IAP to touchdown. What did I do wrong? Should I have waited until I was closer to the field before executing my missed approach? In other words does RC only start to look for missed approaches when you are less than a certain distance from touchdown and if so does anyone know what the distance is?Or did my call for a visual approach screw up my vetored missed approach?RegardsMark

Mark,Unfortunately, when on a visual, there's no "Missed Approach" option. If there were, all you'd here is: "Missed approach is not authorized on a visual approach. You are cleared to land."I have questioned this for a long time because of your exact situation. There's currently no way to do a MA from a visual that I can see.

Many thanks ScottIts nice to know for future reference.Merry ChristmasMark
