voice control/Game Commander

Featured Replies

Hi All,Just wondering if RC can use only key strokes to control it or must one use the nested menus. I was using ProFlight 2K and that allowed me to communicate with ATC via voice commands and requests to the various facilities because it does not use a menu system. It added much to the realism factor in that spoken requests would cause responses from the various facilities. This is nearly impossible to map in the default ATC with FS2K2 because of the ever shifting menu selections dependent on different conditions. Just wondering if RC can be mapped to key strokes or are you locked into the menus?Thank you in advance for your help,Tom

I've been using Game Commander with RCv3 since it's release.A number of the menu selections are common to all menu's but others have to have their voice commands cutomized to execute for a selected menu.By renaming the pilot wav folder you can stop the pilot voice responses and leave all the responce commands to yourself.I don't try to master all commands with Game Commander. For example, if I require an alternate runway or declare an emergency situation, I will use key commands to select and just voice the proper radio response. This keeps you from having to refer to pages of custom commands. However, the use of Game Commander for all acknowledgements, controller contacts and a multitude of menu requests and selections really adds another element of realism. Especially when you don't hear the pilot wav files repeating the instructions. You have to listen up or get critiqued at the end of the flight for requesting repeated instructions too often. ( Still having problems with that guy with the British accent ).I've incorporated a number of wav files also into Game Commander from various sources that allows me to add crew and cabin audio to the flight. Safety briefings, check lists, push back audio, copilot responses to landing gear and flap changes etc. I have found that the combination of RCv3 and Game Commander is about the next best thing to VATSIM. Especially when there are no controllers on line.

The only thing keeping me from tying out Game Commander is my wife! ;-) She's a bit hard of hearing and might think I was talking to her when I call for "Gear Up"! No Dear, I was saying...blah..blah..blah he he She already thinks I'm nuts for beta testing a program for two years! :-eek When I show her pics of home built cockpits, she just rolls her eyes and smiles. :-) She has been know to serve me breakfast and coffee on the flight deck, so she's a keeper. :-jumpy Try using the "save" option in RC to save a flight at different points in a regular route you may like to fly with Vatsim. When on Vatsim and the coverage peters out, you can start RC and load a saved flight that's at least pretty close to where you left off with vatsim. When coverage is available again, stop RC and reconnect to Vatsim. Just a thought. ;-)Rob
