January 10, 200323 yr Hi All, This was posted on the Aerowinx PS1 Forum (Germany). This was in reference to an actual incident. Posted By: Olivier Debuyck (EBOS) Date: Wednesday, 8 January 2003, at 8:30 p.m. That was a Northwest plane... The plane was cleared to descend pretty early by Maastricht Control (132.205)... As it was below FL240 above Belgian airspace it got handed over to Brussels Center (131.100) who gave them vectors for RWY25 (in EBBR that is, but EDDF has the same runways :D that's the (un)funny part about this). When the pilots couldn't find their waypoints, they just asked vectors to those waypoints. The pilots didn't notice a thing, neither did the controller... When handing over the plane, the controllers just said: "contact approach", or "contact tower", without mentioning the "Brussels"... It was only when the plane was a few feet above the ground that the pilot noticed that the runway surface wasn't the same as mentioned on the Charts, that's when he asked Brussels tower where he was... Many people got fired in this unlucky incident.("We'll do all that.")Regards
January 11, 200323 yr Hi again, This sort of suggests that ATC folks do not always follow the rules, doesn't it. It would have been interesting to hear their specific defense.Regards
