January 12, 200323 yr Are there any links out there to hear what the air traffic and controller sounds like with the faster speech. I am considering purchasing this product, but did not care for the slower speed I listed to on a previous download that was "normal" speed. Thanks
January 12, 200323 yr You will find a sample on Scott Campbell's Flight Deck site:http://fsflightdeck.com/rcv3/index.html
January 13, 200323 yr I tried that (the small download). Is that the fast speed? Seemed very choppy and slow.
January 13, 200323 yr A couple of things.1) That is the standard speech, and is almost identical to FSATC.2) You can boost the speech by increasing the priority of RC.3) Do not judge RC by speech (although in the two years I've been part of the team developing v3, I have never said "you know, this product would be great except for the unnatural speech", which it isn't). There is no possible way to make fluid speech from 1130 files by each person, recorded over days, put together. Even MS can't do it. I use RC because it is the most realistic ATC there is, bar none, and I happen to like the speech. No it's not like fluid sentences, but again that's impossible.Sorry for the rant, I just happen to know that the speech isn't bad at all, and with the reality and procedures and features of RC, I am amazed that this is the only thing people have to say.
January 13, 200323 yr Scott,Thanks for the reply. I understand what your saying, but back to my original question. Is there a link where I can hear the speech played a little faster so I can make an educated decision. There is a thread above this one entitled "speed up slow controller speak - xp only". Is that thread about playing the speech at a little quicker pace, or is it about something else that I don't understand since I don't own the product.ThanksBrian S.
January 13, 200323 yr Brian,What those topics (both the WinXP and Win95/Win98/WinME) are for, are how to increase the priority of RC with those OS's. With the priority increased, the speed of the speech is sped up, as is RC processing in general.I don't have a sample posted with RC having a higher priority since I figured having the example I do for the RC "Normal" priority, gives a base for comparison. You can guarantee speech speed is faster with boosted priority. Rather, silence is made less with boosted priority. So to answer your question, no, there is no actual example of faster speech, but yes, you can, in effect, speed up the speech with RC being set to a higher priority.
