Airway problem and PSS A320

Featured Replies

Hi guys...First, finally I can use my RC3, I'm very happy with it!When testing some stuff I always make a BMI A320 EGKK-EHAM testflight!Don't know why but it's a nice short flight...Ofcourse I wanted to test RC3 with this flight...Everything goes very well.. from Clearance to push/start taxi to hold short etc etc...After take-off I switch on my PSS A320 autopilot and the plane goes along with the SID including the restrictions...After some miles on the SID RC3 instructs me to go a different HDG because I'm off the airway? So I applied to the intructions, but nothing happened, so after my almost 360 turn I thought I had to go on the airway again...Did that and again, RC3 said that I was off the airway and had to turn again?I don't get it... I use Richard Stefans navdata for the PSS product, RC3 and FSNAvigator... als the latest cycle...What am I doing wrong...PS: When I did a flight from EHAM to EHBK with the Fokker-70 and FSNAvigator it all went fine!!! so this flight was a joy to fly!!!Greetz,Marc Nieuwhof

Marc,When you get that you're off course, where does RC say the waypoint is (the heading to the current wp displayed on AdvDisp)?

Marc,It sounds as though you are loading your basic flight plan into both the A320 FMGC and RC3 but then adding the SID to the FMGC plan - if this is the case, then RC3 does not know about the SID waypoints and assumes you are off course. There are two ways to deal with this. First, you can include the SID waypoints in your plan rather than adding them through the FMGC. This will work but is rather limiting - especially if you use a real weather program - as most SIDs are runway-specific and you might not have the necessary charts to give you this info. The better method, imho, is to start your basic flight plan from the last waypoint of the SID - it would be CLN in the example you gave - then make sure "Flexible Dep Proc" box in the 'Options' section of the 'Controller Info' page is checked. Checking 'Flex dep' means that RC3 will then allow you to fly the lateral aspects of a SID it doesn't 'know' about until you reach the first point of the flight plan ie the last point of the SID. You will get climb above any SID altitude restrictions but this accords well with real-world procedures. The 'Flex Dep' is explained in great detail on page 83 of the manual - have a quick look before your next flight. The reason you (probably) didn't get any problems flying the F70 from Amsterdam to Maastricht is because the F70 you were using didn't have an FMC with built-in SIDs and STARs so RC3 had the same information as whatever you were using to navigate the aircraft - the FS2002 GPS maybe?PetePJust had a thought - there is one other possibility that sometimes causes problems when using the PSS A320 with RC3. If you loaded your plan to the FMGC in FS2002 *.pln format, the FMGC has a tendency to drop the first waypoint in the plan leaving RC3 and the Airbus having different first waypoints.PP

Nope... that is not the problem...This is what happens... have paused fs2002 right now :)I takeoff... go from EGKK to London Control... all goes fine...Now I turn into DET VOR via FMC on the A320...The nice RC3 chap accepted all my turns before I bumped into this problem...The instrument readouts are as follows:PSS A320IAS: 300ktsHDG: 90ALT: Climbing to FL250WIND: 319/49NEXT WPT: DETNow comes the snack...in the ADVDisp window I have the following on DET:20m/275/11730RC3 says you're off the airway and fly heading 270 to intercept and then direct to follow flightplan...I don't get this...Thanx...Marc Nieuwhof

What should I do know...Fly back to intercept the 270 radial from DET or HDG.After that turn direct to DET... but then I'm off the airway too...Hehe... nice...Greetz,Marc

Hmm... that does look a little odd. If you've taken-off from 26L and made a right turn to DET, then 090 is a reasonable heading (although if you're flying the CLN SID you should be approaching DET from the south tracking 007). However, RC seems to think you're 20 miles east of DET and not to the west of it where the FMGC thinks you are.If you want, you can e-mail me the flight plan you're using and I'll see if I get the same results.PeteP;http://jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg

The RC NAVs.txt file has:VA DET Detling 51.303889 0.597222117.30Nav has DET at: VOR Id: DET Full name: DETLING Frequency: 117.30 MHz Latitude: 51.303883 N (51 18' 13.98" N) Longitude: 0.597222 E (0 35' 50.00" E) Altitude: 643 ft Mag Deviation: 3.6 degrees (West)So everyone agrees. This is an interesting one.As well as sending Pete your plan, would you also please screenshot your GPS display and post that? I want to see where you are and where the VOR really is in relation to you.(Addt'l)Looking at the straight-line distance, DET is exactly 31 miles from Gatwick. One mile out of the DP zone.

On Final...I made a new flight from EGKk-EHAM...I think I did 2 stupid things... (I guess)..I made the first flightplan starting at runway 26LIn FS Navigator I deleted some waypoints to shorten the flight...The second run I left everything as it was an I started from 26R...Now everything went fine...Except for the shortdistance-landing on EHAM on RWY22 with an A320 :-)Thanx for your help...Marc Nieuwhof...

OK Marc - it happens to us all at one time or another - thanks for letting us know what went wrong. Two small points - 26R/08L is actually just a taxyway that's been upgraded for occasional use as an emergency runway so use 26L/08R in preference and if you don't like (or find unsuitable) the runway RC allocates for landing (or departure for that matter) you can always request a different one.PeteP;http://jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg

Hi Pete,About the first point, I did not know it... hey I'm from Holland ;-)About the second option, I know but I wanted to test it the way it was... the landing went fine...Max autobrake... spoilers.... trust reversers... hehe... thank god we have an ILS readout because it's very foggy at EHAM...Thanx for your help, and RC never goes OFF again....Cool job, and case closed!Marc Nieuwhof!

Be aware, that for some unknown reasons PSS FMC always cuts off the first waypoint when loading from the FS2002 database. If you set it back in the PSS' FMC manually, RC works absolutely perfect with the loaded flightplan.Rgds, Sam
