Are altitude clearances supposed to be varied?

Featured Replies

I may be suffering from greater than normal brain-fade here, but I thought in RC3 there was supposed to be much greater variation in the altitudes that an aircraft was cleared to during climbs and descents. For example, in previous versions climbing ac were always cleared to fl150 then fl230 and so on. I am sure that when I first started using RC3 there was, indeed, some variation. Now, however, I seem to be always getting the standard fl150/fl230/fl330 clearances without much variation.I just wondered what degree of variation should be expected because if it isn't randomised, then you end up pre-selecting the next altitude before instructed by ATC because of over-familiarity.Having said all that, RC3 remains a wonderful add-on. I was a confirmed VATSIM flier prior to RC3, but I probably use RC3 more now because I can at least guarantee ATC throughout the route whenever I want to fly.Cheers,AndyEGTR

Interim altitudes are assigned randomly. The more you fly, the more you'll see them. There'll come a time when you're clr'd to the upper limit of a stratum without the steps, it's refreshing :).>>you end up pre-selecting the next altitude before instructed by ATC;). I've spent time in the courtroom discussing such practices with a B727 driver (he lost).

Doug,On a side note, I've noticed that when I use RVSM I get more random climbs.I actually got stopped at FL200 for a while last night before getting a climb to FL230, then FL350.I almost had a "Bill" moment and had to reset the AP. :-lol

Great, isn't it? The more you fly with RC the better it gets. :-)The post about a one engine out emergency with Otto at the controls cracked me up! :-) Out of the hundred zillion times I tested the emergency routine I never had an actual emergency, especially at random....or due to bad landing earlier.. LOL Might have to take a second look at FSMaintRob

Rob,Remember the '57 flight I made to test e's? I had to ditch in the mountains? That was not intentional. I set the FS system failure to 50%, and an engine cut out, the electronics filed, and the flaps wouldn't extend.Remember that one? :-lol

All that happened and you're still ALIVE to remember it? :-eek Try having the cat jump up in your lap and blind you with her tail just as you start your landing flare! ahahahaRob
