ATC HOLD Instructions

Featured Replies

Hello, I am trying to practice HOLDs rather then VECTORs for any delays at the arrival airport but I am not sure how to interpret the ATC instructions. For example, on Page 33 of the V3 Manual, and I quote from the text: ".....expect further clearance one four two five." Can someone expand on the 'one four two five' as I don't seem to be able to understand these last instructions for it doesn't seem to make sense. I probably have a mental block on this instruction. Thanks and Regards

For example, on Page 33 of the V3 Manual, and I quote from the text: ".....expect further clearance one four two five."EFC 12:45.... It is the time to expect a further clr. If not recieved by then, then you need to contact ATC to find out if you were forgotten!keith

Thanks Keith, My goodness although I hear what you are saying I am somewhat surprised that this time reference would be used. I can understand an EFC of 10-20 or so minutes but if local time is used couldn't this practice be slightly confusing if the HOLD pattern just happens to cross time zones? I do thank you for I never gave the possibility of using actual local time any thought at all.Regards

>EFC times are given in GMT or Zulu time. :) >>Best Regards, >Randy >http://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg I forgot to add that tidbit in as I assume that 'everyone' knows that in aviation pretty much everyting is driven off of zulu. ;)KeithThe reason that it is not in 10-20 minutes is that you need to fly the aircraft and for you to have to jot down the time you entered and then figure out the new time to EFC is just another thing to do. This way you can jot down the time and look at your watch and see the time you can EFC.Just like no math in the cockpit... to time consuming......

Thanks for your replies.I am now glad I asked the question even if it sounded stupid. You guys cleared up my doubt. What you said makes good sense.Regards

Keith, Thanks for the reminder about the EFC and all aviation times being in zulu. :-)Rob
