New York or Boston Center ?

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone, This is my final message in reference to apparent flaws in the RCv3 software package. Everyone of my previous notes has only served to anger those folks involved, in one way or the other, with Radar Contact. The first message was in reference to a repeatable ATC Center flaw in Radar Contact's Tutorial Flight #1 from KDSM to KORD when the ATC directs the CP to call Minneapolis Center on xxx.xx. The CP complies but it is Chicago Center which responds. I've complied with JD's request to send the coordinates when this problem occurred but my message with the coordinates was never acknowledged as received. The second issue I raised was, in general, the poor quality of the ATC voices. From this user's point of view I found the faster the machine RCv3 was running on the worse the ATC directives sounded. This was alleviated, to a great degree, by running RCv3 on a slower networked machine as well as incorporating the excellent sound waves of Jeff Evans, Ray Proudfoot and Steve Lewis. Yet at a critical point in the flight, the Approach Phase, ATC rapidly issues a group of instructions which, in general, you cannot understand due to the verbal elocution of the ATC operator, and when you feel confident that the CP will repeat these instructions the CP responds with "Okay, we'll do all that". I never heard this phrase in the RW. Again I received, what appeared to me as, hostile replies from the RC group including some alleged Beta testers. The third issue was the ATC responses on a recent flight from Newark Intl (KEWR) to Frankfurt (EDDF). I experienced the same ATC Center, Moncton, from TUSKY until I entered the LONDON FIR. I did include the flight-plan in one of the related notes but again, understandably in this case, it was met with skepticism. Therefore I repeated the entire flight following the same flightplan and I found ATC was right on the money for flights #2, #3 and #4 which started to make me suspicious that RCv3 might be slightly unstable. Yet if I couldn't repeat the problem I had to think the group had no alternative but think the problem was somehow created here at my location. Then yesterday, for some reason, I thought I would try the same flight and flightplan again. This time I did experience a randomness to the ATC messages. As soon as we departed NewarK Intl (KEWR) ATC informed us to contact New York Center on xxx.xx. The CP dutifully complied and dialed in xxx.xx into Com1 and proceeded to call New York Center. But it was BOSTON CENTER which responded. At this juncture I was now convinced that, for one reason or another, RCv3 was slightly unstable and that at certain times we receive a somewhat randomized ATC operator. I do realize that this note will infuriate the RCv3 folks just as my previous posted messages, especially the note "Range of Over-Water Radio Stations" has done. Therefore as a result this will indeed be my last entry on the RCv3 forum. Who knows about RCv4? In retrospect nothing was ever gained by my well-intended notes except personal anger. That is not what I had hoped for.Regards
