August 2, 200322 yr Hi friends.I've been using Ted Wright NAV3.1 all the time within FS98, FS200 and FS2k2 and now i'm not sure i'll be able to run in FS2004.I am lost :-(Does anyone of you know what should i do? Is there a way to contact the author to know if he has planned to update his must have planner/map?Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)
August 2, 200322 yr >Is there a way to contact the author to know if he has planned>to update his must have planner/map?Yes there is. :)I will probably update Nav for FS2004. I don't have a copy of FS2004 yet, I was hoping for a weekend sale. I have heard that there are some new incompatibilities that may be difficult for me to fix (some changed BGL file formats and more a complicated FSUIPC interface), but I won't know until I dig into it. I don't have the time to work on Nav that I once had, and if I have to spend weeks poking around BGL files with a hex editor again, an update from me might not happen. In any case, I will release my most recent source code, so even if I don't get around to it, somebody else probably will.Ted
August 2, 200322 yr Hi Ted,and thanks a lot for your prompt reply.I seem i can't live w/o your NAV3.1 sticked on my client PC so........let's cross fingers. Good luck!cheersLuigi ;-)
August 3, 200322 yr Ted,As usual, thank-you for this excellent program and the help you've given me for ACLoader. I am using Nav3 with FS2004 without any problems. I am, however, having a problem running it on the XP machine (which has FS). I can run it on the networked Win98 system via WideFS.Besides that, the only real issue you are going to have is that the AFD files are completely different. They are in XML now, I believe, and no longer exist in an AFDFiles directory.Pete D hasn't even had the time to dig around and get the record formats yet. But between you and Pete and now Lee (AFCAD), I'm sure you all will get the info. ;-)Also, are you planning to get FSUIPC acceditation for Nav? Since yous is freeware, I don't think it'll cost anything. Of course, you can always do like the rest of us and charge a small pittance since you've put in so much time on this wonderful product. :-)(I know you say maybe the update won't happen, but I've heard that from me, Pete, and Lee :-lol).
August 3, 200322 yr > I can run it on the networked Win98 system via WideFS.Scott, same here!I used NAV3.1 during FS2002 days and of course that's one of the first addon i checked for FS2004 compatibility. Can you please tell me:1) how do you import FS2004 flightplans2) how do you show FS2004 AI traffic on the mapAgain, which weather generation do you use in FS2004?FSMeteo v.6 is on my client PC but every METAR it loads FS2004 stutters and 2D panel blinks :-( (v5.2 was fine in FS2002).Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)
August 3, 200322 yr Luigi,>Can you please tell me:>>1) how do you import FS2004 flightplansI don't. I use FS2000 plans I created in FSNav and exported to FS2000 format.>2) how do you show FS2004 AI traffic on the mapI don't because I don't care where the traffic is.>Again, which weather generation do you use in FS2004?FS_Meteo 5.2 and 6. I'll use 6 exclusively when Marc has the XP problem fixed.>FSMeteo v.6 is on my client PC but every METAR it loads FS2004>stutters and 2D panel blinks :-( (v5.2 was fine in FS2002).This is a known problem with FS2004, regardless of what program you use, and sometime when no external program is used. This is mostly an nVidia card problem, especially if you are using an FX version. The FX 5200 is notoriously bad. I have no problems with FS2002 and any external program, but I'm running the earlier version of FSUIPC with that.
August 3, 200322 yr >I am using Nav3 with FS2004 without any problems. Really? I've heard there is a problem reading the BGL files.>...Besides that, the only real issue you are going to have is>that the AFD files are completely different. They are in XML>now, I believe, and no longer exist in an AFDFiles directory.Nav (at least until now) extracts the AFD data directly from the BGL files. Reading XML would be a lot easier, if I had to start from scratch. However, I would prefer not to start from scratch.>Also, are you planning to get FSUIPC acceditation for Nav? It depends on how much trouble it is. My tolerance for jumping through hoops to track changes in commercial software is pretty low (especially copy protection related changes). New versions of FS are enough work.Working with freeware authors and open standards has always given me a feeling of contributing to the whole community, and that has been my main motivation for writing Nav. That motivation disappears when interfaces go proprietary.>Since yous is freeware, I don't think it'll cost anything. Of>course, you can always do like the rest of us and charge a>small pittance since you've put in so much time on this>wonderful product. :-)Nav will always be free. If I though of this as a business, I wouldn't do it at all. Ted
August 4, 200322 yr Hi Scott,>This is a known problem with FS2004, regardless of what>program you use, and sometime when no external program is>used. This is mostly an nVidia card problem, especially if>you are using an FX version.I use ASUS GeForce4 TI4200 (OMEGA Det's 43.45).I'm planning to replace those drivers with more recent version (44.03); maybe that bl... meteo stuttering will blow away)))))))))Forgive me, i have one more question:actually my OS is Win98SE. Do you think i should chage with XP?And if so, can you please tell me why? Thanks for helpingLuigi ;-)
August 4, 200322 yr Luigi,I only swirched to XP when I bought a new system. I would have had to switch anyway because most of the software coming out in the next year or so will only run on XP. The other reason was Win98 was just becoming too unstable. With XP, the system is a lot more stable. But if Win98 is working for you, I'd say keep it. You can always install XP on a separate drive and keep both systems. The only thing is you'll have to reinstall most things so they'll work properly with XP. Then they may not with Win98.
