About this altimeter check. At 10000 I go into FSUIPC and there`s a hot key for Altimeter check. But on the Adv.Disp. there`s also a key for the same thing. What I`d like to know is, if I have a figure of say 2.92, where does this go? Where is it entered?cheers, crashproof

Hi Crashproof,You enter it in the altimeter (run your mouse over the bottom left and bottom right corner of the altimeter) The left corner will have a - (minus sign) and the right corner will have a + (plus sign). Just click on either one.FS2004 also has a shortcut key (:( which will set the current altimeter setting.

Hi Rick, Well I must be really dim. If I click where you suggest, all that happens is the current altitude is changed. How do I enter the figures that are quoted when I click in RC for Altimeter check? The figures don`t make sense. How do I enter say 2.9? especially as my altitude could at that moment be changing anyway? This is all very confusing!!! crashproof

Hi Crashproof,You do not physically enter the numbers. You repeatedly click the + and - to raise or lower the setting to what you want.Did you try the B shorcut key? That will set the altimeter to the current setting.I'm using the default 737-400 as my example in FS2004. I see that I made a mistake in my instructions. Look at the altimeter. I told you the bottom left and bottom right controlled the barometric pressure setting. I was wrong (I'm use to FS2002). In FS2004 the controls are in the bottom left corner. Run your mouse over the area that says baro. It will change from + to -. To raise the pressure click on + to lower the pressure click on -.When I fly the first thing I do is click on the B key. That sets the correct pressure. Then as pressure changes are given to me I use the + and + keys to raise or lower the pressure setting to match what I'm told.

When you adjust the altimeter, yes, the altitude changes. That's why the altimeter is adjusted. As pressure increases and decreases, your display altitude will change. When aircraft are above the Transition Level (180 in the US), then they set their altimeter to 29.92 in/hg (inches mercury) and when the pressure changes, you climb or descend to meet your altitude again. Since every aircraft is doing this, everyone is on the same page. You may be climbing or descending a thousand feet to meet your Flight Level. This is why it's called Flight Level and not altitude. When you are below the TA (Transition Altitude), you set to Local pressure. The reason you do this is to keep at the required altitude above the terrain. So when the pressure changes, you readjust your altimeter and your altitude AGL (above ground level) remains constant. So yes, when you click the + and - on the altimeter, your altitude changes. Then you climb or descend to get back to your assigned altitude when you are below the TA. You Always set to 29.92 in/hg (1013 mb) when you above the TL, and Always set to local when you are below it.You don't enter numbers into the altimeter. You change the presure reading. Most aircraft have a little window at the 3-o;clock position to display the altimeter pressure setting. On glass cockpits, it's displayed in various locations, but usually below the altitude bar on the right of the Primary Flight Display.

Well, I found it at last! What I was trying to get across was I knew why it had to be done but I didn`t know how.Anway, hopefully, I`ve got it now.Cheers crashproof
