Will RC do this?

Featured Replies

HiAfter a very interesting troll back thro months of this forum and reading everything on the RC site many times I've decided that RC's for me, perhaps V4.I'm still using FS2002 (can't yet see a convincing reason to change and lose so many of my goodies) and generally fly the various PSS Airbuses.Since I have limited timespans briefly this is what I do on longhaul.1.I prepare the a/c and load up the flightplan into the MCDU and into FSNav and FS2002.2.Fly up to cruise and stay there as long as I can leaving enough time for the descent and approach etc.3.I then go to FSNav, select a point on the track 50 or so miles before my TOD and note the heading.4.Go back to the a/c, slew to that heading then back to FSNav to click on the track and fly from that point. Now the MCDU and FS ATC pick up from that point and I'm able to attend to the descent phase etc and complete the flight successfully. Will I be able to do the same under RC control, perhaps some kind fellow would check it out for me?I look forward with interest to any replyTony

Tony,Yep. Can do.You would do the same, request another waypoint/checkpoint before TOD (your 50 miles to TOD is fine), RC will grant it, slew to before that point, and resume. I do this all the time. When I fly KSFO/YSSY, if I'm still way, way out when I get up in the morning, I blow off fuel, request the closest WP to the TOD, slew, descend, finish. It's great. Not only that, you can save a flight anywhere you want and pick up from there later. Only issue you'd have is that, if I remember right, the PSS/PMDG panels start cold.

ScottThanks a million for your swift, positive response - clearly you are as enthusiastic as I am about this. I shall keep my eyes on this forum for news of V4 and indulge myself immediately. I use ActiveSky with FDC to keep me company and from what I read I should have no problems with either of these two programs - perhaps you will let me know if you know otherwise? You are most certainly correct in you second paragraph that's why I adopted the method I describe to circumvent this. Cold start at FL300+ it most certainly would be irrecoverable even for the Airbus!Once again - A BIG THANKYOU.Chin, chinTony
