Strange hand-off problem

Last night, on a flight from SLC to LAS (Salt Lake City to Las Vegas), I had an interesting problem while being handed from one controller to another.I had just executed a go-around, and the tower handed me back to approach control, as expected, after I reported the missed approach. Approach gave me some instructions, asked for my intentions, and I asked for vectors. He then handed me off to another approach frequency. When I pressed 1 to acknowledge and contact, I heard what sounded like DTMF tones (like from a telephone), and the Radar Contact window briefly displayed "N/A". I thought this was strange, but I just kept flying to see what would happen. My pilot voice never called to acknowledge the handoff, and soon the approach controller came back: "American 104, I say again, contact approach on..." This time, there was no "acknowledge and contact" option. Instead, option 1 was:1- Approach on 11350I'm typing that frequency is from memory; it's probably wrong. But what's important to note is that the frequency that was displayed was NOT the one I was being handed off to. It's likely that was the frequency I was currently on. And when I pressed "1", I just got those tones and the "N/A" again.I was able to solve it by manually tuning my COM1 radio to the frequency that was displayed on the menu (ie, NOT the one I was supposedly being handed to) and then selecting that "1- Approach on 11350" option. When I did that, my pilot voice came on and said, "Approach, American 104 is with you at one zero thousand..." and all was well.Strange.

Please zip it up and send it to JD jd@jdtllc.com for analysis. Don't forget to include a detailed description of what you thing the problem is.Please note JD is in Boston all week so he will get to your trouble request as soon as he can when he returns.

I will certainly do that if I get a chance. I have a feeling, though, that this is one of those fluke things that won't be reproduceable.I guess I was hoping someone would chime in and say, "Oh, the 'N/A' message means x, and you just need to do y to fix it!"
