Scenery in FS2002

Recommended Posts

When I look through the list of cities in the scenery menu, Rio de Janeiro is not listed but it is in the game. Just wondering if there are any other cities in the game which aren't listed?ThanksLvstudentpilot

There are tens of thousands of cities and aiports simulated in Flight Simulator, and obviously MS can't list them all (or the documentation would resemble the Manhattan directory). Even if you are talking about some major feature being simulated it would be difficult to imagine just how long the documentation would be (for example, my little home town of Carson shows the capitol building and our largest Casino -- but I promise you Carson City isn't mentioned anywhere in any documentation available to the public).(Am I the only one slightly put off by the reference to my favorite pastime as a "game"? Are you trying to tell me this isn't Real Life? :>)

I think that's great that they took the time to represent such a wonderful little place, but the situation that prompted me to ask that question was one day I decided to see if the beautiful (and very BIG) city of Rio de Janiero had been created for the FS2002 world and to my delight it had. So... I got a little excited and figured that one of the biggest cities in the world or at least in that part of the world had been modeled as well. So I took my sight seeing Cessna 172 to Sao Paulo, in Brazil of course, and to my dismay, there was nothing there! Anyways no big deal, but it did prompt me to go to several other cities around the world, which, at least in my opinion deserved to be at least somewhat represented, and again to my dismay, most of the cities I went to had not been created. Some of these were; Melbourne, Brisbane -AUS, Shanghai, Bejeing -CHN, and so on. So if anybody else has a few secrets they'd like to share, my original question stands-What cities have been modeled in FS2002 that are not listed in the scenery menu or in the scenerycities folder??? (besides Rio)ThanksGambling is legal in Carson City? :)LvstudentpilotLas Vegas, NV

I assume you're being facetious about gambling being legal here, in your own capitol . BTW, I graduated from UNLV and spent about 10 years there, so Vegas is one of the places I like to fly in and out a lot.But your original question might be better put if you understand that MSFS is mostly a US-Centric world out of the box. Oh yes, they have indeed included the world, and many cities are modeled there, but my comments are correct insofar as they could *never* list all the U.S. airports and cities that are modeled -- way too much time. All the places you mentioned are outside the U.S. -- and that's probably why a lot of our European friends are so expert at making their own third party sceneries to fill in this gap. Outside of Alaska (for some odd reason) Europe is by far the most modeled continent by third parties. My biggest advice to you would be to download the excellent freeware available here and make your own best places to travel.
