    Dear virtual pilots,
     
    Virtual Norwegian has after a long time finally the opportunity to support Mac and Linux users with XAcars again.
    We have since the launch of our own system only supported our own in-house pilot client, as we could not find a way to implement XAcars together with our system. However, a solution for this was recently found, which means that we can finally add support for Mac and Linux users again.
     
    If you are looking for a virtual airline with high realism and the possibility to fly to a variety of destinations, you are more than welcome to apply for a career with us.

  2. Yep, correct  ^_^

    If you use FSX, I highly recommend vPilot though. Squawkbox and FSInn haven't been updated for ages, vPilot is the only client that there is active support on (from the creator), as far as I know. They all have their pros and cons of course, so you'll have to test and see which you find better to use. vPilot is the easiest one to get started with I'd say.


  3. There are no requirements to use any programs with VATSIM, except a pilot client so you can log in to VATSIM. Just like you can fly (pretty much) whatever you'd like - from the default Cessna to PMDG aircraft. It's all up to you :)

    Virtual Norwegian has been around for many years. In October 2009, it was decided to rebuild Virtual Norwegian. We started completely from scratch with a new and fresh staff team. With time, we added more and more features, including our version of "CrewBriefing", which has been a huge success for Virtual Norwegian.

    In May 2014, after months of work, we launched our brand new system created by ourselves, including our own pilot client, Virtual Norwegian Pilot Client (VNPC). After the launch of our new system, Virtual Norwegian really took off and we have never seen so much activity.

    Now we are about to leave 2014 behind, and throughout 2014, we have had quite a big goal: to reach 100,000 flights (counted since October 2009), and yesterday this goal was reached!

  5. Usually you should be level at the planned level before the waypoint, not after, I'm not mistaken.

     

     

    Here's some info about the speed (N) you were wondering about by the way if you ever see another letter and wonder what it means :)

    Insert cruising speed in TAS in terms of Kilometres per hour -K followed by
    4-figures, (e.g. K0830) or, Knots - N followed by 4-figures, (e.g. N0485) or True
    Mach Number when so prescribed by appropriate ATS, to the nearest hundreds (e.g.M082)

  6. Hi Alexander,

     

    there are multiple places to find current tracks and guides. I've written a short guide for oceanic procedures based on the ICAO NAT 007 document (airspace manual), which can be found here. You can also find the current tracks on this link.

    I've not included any information on SELCAL in this guide, but this can be found in some of the other guides around there.

     

    The other guide I could (sort of) recommend is VATSIM UK's: http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/oceanic-procedures

    Reason why I say sort of recommend, is because there are some things in their guide that isn't quite correct. For example the clearance - why would you say both the track name and the full routing, when you are supposed to read back the TMI number in your read-back so you wouldn't need to use the full routing...also the coordinates in their examples (thinking of the FPL example in particular) don't follow the rules stated in NAT 007 (and a lot of other documents), and some other small things around.

     

    For the coordinates your FMC/MCDU, it's not too difficult to add them. If we use today's track A as an example: ERAKA DCT 60N020W 62N030W 62N040W 62N050W DCT PIDSO,

    you would simply convert 60N020W to 6020N. (Remove N0 and change the W to N). Your flight plan should contain the 7 character coordinate though, and not the ARINC 424 format.

    Another thing I've noticed with quite many on Vatsim (even experienced pilots), is that then pronounce 6020N (from their FMC) as "6 0 2 0 north/november" - that should be "6 0 north (0) 2 0 west".

    I'm not 100% this is correct as I haven't seen any info it, but I'm guessing you'd do a random route until 40W, and from 40W you'd join a track, and your clearance would consist of a random route and a track.

     

     

    then join a NAT?

    NAT means North Atlantic, not North Atlantic Track as many people think. Check the glossary of terms in ICAO NAT document 007 (page 14). It's sufficient to refer to them as a "track", e.g Track A :)

     

     

    Hopefully that'll help you out a bit. If anyone have any info on how they do this real life (clearance wise), that'd be lovely so we could use it on Vatsim as well :)
