  1. I need more time with this program. It would be great if it ever came to the iPad, this is becoming my go to device replacing my desktop for pretty much everything except actual development work. I think the touch interface would be phenomenal for working with Kerbals.

  2. I'm running Flight on Windows 8 CP. Works fine. I can't help but wonder if perhaps they have something in the works. Maybe Flight as it is now is dead, perhaps MS realized it wasn't going in a suitable direction and they are going to work on something else. I have a difficult time believing that the MS FS franchise is dead completely. But who knows, definitely seems odd to release patches for a defunct product, that really doesn't have any serious issues.

  3. I'm really having a blast with this. Its a great mix of humor & simplicity yet still complex enough but without being too technical. So far I've got one ship stuck in orbit with its Kerbilnaut drifting in space a couple of kms behind. Another ship launched with way too much velocity and is now orbiting the Sun some 20,000,000 kms out. Yet another ship made it to Muns orbit then ran out of fuel before spectacularly crashing into the Munar surface.

So far I'm 0 for 3 (that actually left the planet). It would be cool if you could launch bits into orbit, then assemble an interplanetary ship there. And also be able to launch a rescue mission for my poor Kerbilnaut drifting in orbit. Bring up a fuel tank so he can de-orbit.

  4. That boat was lost at sea in the Bermuda's Triangle in 1974, in 1981 (seven years later) the US Coast Guard (Seventh Distric) received a two minutes message from the same boat saying that their compass was going crazy and they did not know where they were, that was the last time we heard from them.

So an abandoned trawler drifted through the Panama Canal, or all the way around Cape Horn and up against the current to Alaska. C'mon, that's pretty far fetched. It's much more likely that it was washed out to sea during the Japenese tsunami and the crew went crazy and turned in to zombies.

  5. RoboRoy, I'd like to thank you for the fact that I have not eaten for the last 6 hours. This program has consumed me, its great for my OCD. Now if I could just figure out why my parachute keeps deploying just after lift off. Not good!

  6. Now that the demise if MS Flight has come and gone, has there been any information out of the Flight studios about what was originally planned for the program in the short and long term? A road map if you will of what scenery areas were considered, aircraft that were planned? What new software features were in the works? Was there any thought on aircraft to complete the achievements for speed, altitude, distance, cargo and passengers?

I'm just interested to know what direction Flight was intended, and what we will miss out on. The cancellation of Flight reminds me of the demise Canada's Avro Arrow program.

  7. Wonder what it would cost to get a hold of the Flight source from Microsoft. If they have abandoned it, perhaps they could be convinced to license / sell the engine. I personally would invest my time and money into such an endeavor. Some people spend thousands on custom cars etc, I'd be willing to spend a couple g's to continue flight development.

  8. Where's a good location for the rapids, sounds fun!

If you start the Gravel Bar landing challenge, then you should be able to quit the mission, enter free flight and you should be in the right location. The river comes out of the glaciers, and just follow it down stream. I spent some more time with it last night, almost forgot I was in a flight sim!

Im sure it would be a lot easier without those pesky wings getting in the way!

On the contrary, drop one tip in the water, and its much easier to turn

  9. I just spent an hour with Flight, and hardly even flew! I started out trying to bump my Gravel Bar landing challenge from silver to gold, then thought it would be fun to grab the Icon and try some river landings. On my first landing, I went down some rapids, and thought, hey, that was fun! I turned around and went back up, and back down again. I ended up going a long way down the river, and there are some pretty good rapids there. I had spray coming up over the cockpit and everything. When I have some more time, I'll follow it all the way to the ocean. Its starts out at 1400ft, so there is bound to be lots of rapids along the way.

If you give it a shot, keep it between 30 and 40 knots to still be maneuverable, and make sure to slow down for some of the bigger waves, or it might register a crash. If you end up belly flopping onto the shore, just drop the gear and roll back into the river. Damn if that wasn't a lot of fun!

MS needs to release a rubber raft, I'll even take a cockpitless one, as long as the oars are animated.

  10. I agree the RV has better brakes but I think that the stearman stalls at a lower speed. Its a good question... needs to be tested.

the RV stops fast in STOL mode: < 10% fuel, full flaps, just above stall speed, and with the parking brake on. ;)

Good one. Here it is on Google maps. https://maps.google....680556&t=h&z=16

Looks like a neighborhood airstrip with houses along both sides of the strip.

Wow, if you drag around the area, there are little strips all over the place. Alaska has air strips like we have Starbucks in Vancouver. ie: on every corner.
