About Me

  1. Love flying at night in Xplane11 after a member told me to compare its night shots with P3DV4/FSX. I feel Xplane11 wins hands down with the moving traffic below, tailights receding into the distance.... John
  2. Lovely freeware Legacy, looks like it is going 180 knots even on the ground. Now all we need is a Lancair IVP for Xplane, 320KTAS in pressurized comfort! John
  3. Enjoying the Xplane11 Ask21 glider, with its courtesy tow to altitude. Annecy is a beautiful small historic town in France, with canals like Venice. The way it is situated on a lake, with the majestic French alps, it rests near Mt. Blanc. I went there in 1989, back when France required visas of US Citizens. I went to the French consulate in San Francisco to get mine, the people there were so courteous and gave me brochures on France. I flew to Geneva, took the train to the main station, then walked across Lac Le Man to another, smaller station for the ride to Annecy. Saw Mt. Blanc in 1982, on a tour, we went to Chamonix on our way to Zermatt in Switzerland. There I was at the foot of the Matterhorn, with breathtaking rare clear weather and views of it. John
  4. I was along the coast of Cannes and Nice last June 2017 on my tour thru Europe, loved how the Alps marched down to the sea as we drove along the coast, thru Monaco, into Italy. So I made this flight today to remember my time in Europe last year, with those lovely countries, France, Monaco and Italy, and the wonderful people and hill towns we saw, living old country style as families do, going back to my European roots, as my paternal grandparents came from the old country. That is why I have toured and worked in Europe over the past four decades, to be near my roots, to walk in the footsteps of those that made our country great. John
  5. Eclipse out of Unalaska in the Aleutians, Cessna over some spectacular Frisco scenery, freeware at that, adds a detailed Frisco to Xplane 10 and 11 and a great SFO airport, along with some photoreal textures of the northern SF peninsula and city. I picked the Aleutians for the Eclipse because they are rarely shared in either P3D, FSX or Xplane, and offer a great contrast between the mountains and ocean. I flew over them once on a Northwest Airlines flight in '92 enroute nonstop from SFO to Tokyo, saw them from FL350 peeking up from the summer overcast below. John
  6. Enjoying Xplane11's beautiful rendering of the Cascades, California's Central Valley, and the Sierras. I love the realistic looking atmosphere, the way the haze blends into the horizon as in real life flight, and the way it obscures the ground in flight. I love the well placed landclass and autogen, which I think is the best that can be offered in the sim world and amazingly realistic at all altitudes. I enjoyed a wonderful, two hour, real time flight in the Eclipse watching the landscape roll smoothly by underneath and the clouds flowing smoothly by above and below.... John
  7. Just exploring the Xplane11 world, decided to go some place different for a look at mountains, city and the ocean. John
  8. Flying the Aerobask Eclipse from Orlando to the Big Easy--nice route, with overwater flying out over the Gulf..... John
  9. Enjoy a flight over Xplane11's wonderful default scenery, highly accurate landclass, and great mesh. John
  10. If the clouds are just right, the beauty of a dusk flight into the flight levels is so nice..... John
  11. I always loved that song by Enya. It was spooky that I first heard it in early 1990. Because some months later, in the 1990 summer, I was sent to Venezuela to do some hotel business systems training. While I was there I decided I should book a trip to Angel Falls and that is exactly what I did. I flew from my project on Margarita Island to Canaima, then was taken into the rain forest to hike along the tributaries that flowed into the Orinoco river. And Enya's prophetic song came rushing back to me. Anyway, I decided to install some HD mesh made by Andras Fabian, and here I am sharing a few screenshots that bring back memories of that otherworldly place I was blessed to see, thanks to my profession and the supervisors that allowed me to take the break from my systems implementation in Magarita. John
  12. Out of Sky Harbor, headed out over the desert for a rendezvous with California.... John
  13. Created ultra high res photoreal of Central Arizona made especially for ultralight flying, took the better part of 24 hours to generate this using Ortho4Xp but it was worth it! John
  14. There's nothing like the city by the Bay! John
  15. Climbing up to the service ceiling of the Eclipse, FL410.... John
  16. When I first tried this title, I was bummed, fps were poor. But only when I first tried it out, might have been a background process I had running, because the fps and smoothness of this Carenado XPlane11 title are awesome. I love the autopilot, and love having an aircraft that can handle a big payload. I try not to repeat titles I have in P3D in Xplane, so I have a reason to fly both sims, so I felt the PC12 was the best option to try for the sim. Enjoy the screenshots! John
  17. Enjoying the addition of some fine, outstanding freeware airports, my payware Aerobask Eclipse, and a freeware Gulfstream and F50 'ore Europe. Enjoy this hodgepodge of Xplane11
  18. Some south of the equator, Some in Lord of the Rings Land, Some in Bora Bora, Some in Kauai, and some Ortho out of El Paso all at a blazing 60 fps, wish I could blur them a little for effect.... John
  19. Various shots, in no specific order, you will recognize Vegas McCarran, Vegas Red Rocks, Santa Ana John Wayne airport, and Los Angeles Intl... John
  20. I was reading a thread about the Aerobask Diamond DA62 which brought me to their website, which helped me find their Eclipse 550. It is without a doubt my favorite payware title among my P3D and Xplane aircraft, the avionics are just amazing, entering a flightplan is easy enough for a novice yet the flight management system is full featured. You can enter a flightplan, your cruise altitude and preferred cruise climb speed, and as soon as you are wheels up and flaps retracted you can let the autopilot take some of the workload off of you while you handle the comms, a real pleasure to fly. It's flight envelope lets you rotate at 80 knots, cruise at 340 to 350 KTAS, getting you there away from the congested airports, like you would expect from a Very Light Jet. A lot of fun and a pleasure to hand fly on takeoff and final approach. John
