AGP 8X problems with FX5600

GunfighterAny help appreciated. Just upgraded to P4 2Gig Shuttle AV49 Motherboard 500 DDR RAM with FS 5600 256 meg card. FS 2004 runs very well, with frame rates 25-30 regularly, most sliders maxed. There is NO QUESTION that the better the hardware, the better the program runs. The problem is this - when I query the computer as to AGP status, using the MSI (card maker) display properties, I cannot get the AGP little squares to check, they just grey out. Same happens if I use nVidia properties window. If I use Rivatuner to check, it tells me that AGP is not enabled. If I go into the BIOS, where (according to the manual)I should have a category to choose "AGP Transfer rate" ( 1x, 2x,8X etc) I do not have that category. I have AGP aperture size, etc., but no category for enabling agp or transfer rate. I see that AGP fastwrites and everything else pertaining to AGP is disabled. There is a window in Rivatuner that tells me that AGP is "determined by driver-- PCI" -- I have latest nVidia 45.33 drivers. I'm barely literate about any of this -- the program seems to work fine, I just want to know that in fact AGP 8X is operative. Could the card be in the wrong slot?? Is it in a PCI slot when it should be in an AGP slot? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Greg.

It sounds like you haven't installed the MOBO Controller Chip drivers, i.e., Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi. Open Device Manager, open System Devices, and look for:Intel CPU to AGP ControllerVIA CPU to AGP Controlleretc. If you don't see any, then you probably need to find the drivers either on a CD supplied by the MOBO vendor or from the Controller chip vendor. You should have some information for the MOBO that tells you the MOBO Controller chip vendor. Also visit - http://www.rojakpot.com/ for BIOS settings.W. Sieffert
