September 19, 200223 yr "14SEP02 NOTAM: Fly!II General Aviation Series product line has been canceled due to reduction in FLY!II customer base.."At least you could give the aircraft to someone who was willing to complete the aircraft. Please don't throw it in the waste bin........This is the sadest day in my Fly2 history.....I've been looking forward to the Socata from the beginning and the Sky Arrow since Fly!1.....But I have to admit now.......MONEY RULES!!!!!!Johnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/fly2/vas.gif][/div
September 19, 200223 yr That's really sad, yes!I use FS2002 as well, but FlyII is still the 'Sim of my heart' and i love the PMDG airliners!O.k., i think the Jetstream for FS2002 sure will be interesting, but i'm definately not interested in warbirds like the YAK or whatever bird in a civil flightsim. Cheers,Michael
September 19, 200223 yr Rob,Is this what you meant when you responded to my email concerning the Tampico and SkyArrow??? You indicated there was some interesting news coming and for me to be patient. I don't consider this to be interesting news. Why didn't you announce this on the forum?I'm a bit disappointed in PMDG's lack of communications. To me, one of the corner stones of PMDG has always been it's interaction with their customers (support, providing info, etc.). Since FlyII has died so has PMDG's interaction. This is truly sad. Not only are the customers hurt by this, in the end so is PMDG. IMHO, your reputation and 'shining star' are tarnished.I'm sorry to vent, but I was hoping for a PMDG would still release the two planes. As being a business person myself, a small ROI is better than no ROI.Regards,Bob Lyddy
September 19, 200223 yr All,Now that the announcement (brief as it was) has been made, the record needs to be set straight regarding the demise of the SkyArrow and TB-9 projects. Now maybe there is some cause for complaint about the communications side of things lately, but it's completely unfair to criticize Rob, Lefteris or the rest of the PMDG team for the actual fact that these GenAv aircraft are unavailable. If you're looking for someone to blame, then your search is over! A key factor in this situation was that for personal reasons, my time limit on these projects was strictly limited; in that there was a calendar date after which my participation would cease, end of story. When that time ran out, the planes were simply not completed to a sufficiently high degree to be worthy of release under PMDG's name. Considering that some of the areas for which I was responsible did not overlap with other team members' responsibilities, this left a large vacuum in the projects. It was my recommendation that they not be released in their current state, and I know that Rob did try everything he could to come up with an effective remedy. However, to bring the projects to market would have required a large redirection of focus by other members of the team who were fully involved in airliner support and FS2K2 research projects. To ask them to drop what they were doing to ramp up on a completely different project was just not feasible. This has much less to do with "return on investment" than it does with each team member feeling that they're working effectively. The situation would have been exactly the same if at some time in the past, anybody had asked me to stop "my" project mid-stream and start working on one of the (relatively) more lucrative airliners. Anybody who still thinks that this was purely a "money" issue just doesn't get it, and won't get it regardless of any other explanations. The Fly! II GenAv series was an experiment that involved a lot more than just the couple of aircraft that were publically announced. In the absence of third-party tools that other sims take for granted, new techniques for aircraft creation for Fly2 were needed to have had any chance to create a viable "factory" capable of producing aircraft in reasonable lengths of time. We believed that this could have paid dividends far beyond just the TB-9 and SkyArrow, but many factors, both internal to the team and external in the market, had to align in order for this new approach to be successful. They didn't, so it wasn't.In hindsight, I know everybody wishes that things would had gone differently in any number of ways to have avoided what we've gone through, i.e. pretty much the worst situation possible. I regret that the SkyArrow and TB-9 won't be able to be enjoyed by the small but die-hard cadre of Fly2 users, and apologize personally that it wasn't in my power to see them completed before the clock ran out. But at some point there are bigger things in life than flight simulators (yes, it's true!) and in the grand scheme of things, life and the universe will go on pretty much as normal. Once this chapter has been closed and the dust settled, the rest of the PMDG team will be back on track producing the finest aircraft add-ons for any sim, period.CW
September 27, 200223 yr Instead of throwing the planes in the bin......PMDG should give the aircraft to ROTW or similar freeware groups for finishing!Becouse it's too bad those aircraft never will reach the sky :)Johnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/fly2/vas.gif][/div
September 27, 200223 yr Johnny,I agree, but I'm sure PMDG will say there's a "legal issue" why they can't or won't do this.Bob Lyddy
