Featured Replies

first of all, i want to congradulate PMDG on the excellent project they are working on. i must ask, how are the framerates going to be with that much detail? will only a few people get to see those details or can all of us enjoy your work?Joseph Gonzalez

Hi Joseph,Although we have not officially started beta testing, we have used the NG on a variety of machines belonging to PMDG members. Most of our machines could be classified as "average" (i.e. nobody is running a 3.6 Ghz machine with a gig of ram). Our video cards range from 32MB to 128MB. That being said, we have had very promising results with frame rates. We've also optimized the visual model to the smallest number of polygons possible without losing visual clarity. Since Flight Simulator seems to lose frame rates mostly due to texture memory size, we will most likely offer two texture sets; textures that are large (32bit) for higher-end machines, and standard DXT3 textures for average machines. In addition, we have implemented an FPS slider for the cockpit displays, which will allow the user to set the display's maximum refresh rate in order to optimize overall performance.Because we have not completed work on the aircraft, and beta testing has not yet begun, I won't post any actual numbers, but we assure you that we have performance in mind every step we take toward completion of this project!VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif
