Sound is important!

Featured Replies

Hi folks!Well, we all know that there are a lot of posts with a sound topic, but this one could be interesting for ya. I flew several times in the cabin and in the cockpit of the 738. once i flew 12h in the cockpit also for me a hard job. I'm now ca. 6 years flightsimming. So i think i know what could be possible and what is definitely not possible in FS. Meanwhile i recognized that sounds are one of the most important things in flightsimming. It starts on ground. Until now no aircraft is really loud on ground. Be sure, i know that the Air condition and many other cooling systems make noise! You even can't hear your own voice on ground in the cockpit:) So this is in no addon package done. You can hear the Air Con, but if you want to hear it in the right loudness you have to turn the speaker system very loud, and if you start engines , you have an overdrive. Thats not fine. Also the Air con soundquality is often bad. There must be whistle or two :) hard to explain in words. The enginestart sequence is horrible. A fine start and a seamless crossing to normal N1 sound!that should be possible without a Mig29 PC! Well and when the engine is started , its like with my car....running up to 38% ! It takes half a minute or more to run up from 2% to 20% N1 !!!Taking off is easily cruel! It must feel as if the plane is going to pieces, and it should rumble more. Also the gear retraction ....in the cockpit you can hear that much! The switch sound is also not hearable in the cockpit, maybe a very quiet click, but not more!As you know on appraoch the flaps are driven out and so on... I only hear the gear and the wind whisteling. Flaps have no influence on sound?!Sure? Touching the ground is one very special thing. Somebody created a gauge with a braking sound, but nobody uses it today, and PSS and DF also do not use it.Why?It's just real!Speedbrakes also have no sound in FS. Why?!That is easily not correct!! That's not only my opinion. Thats reality!FEEL REAL!thanxcomments are welcomeSam

Hey Sam, i'm with you and so is PMDG regarding the realism factor. One could spend years fine tuning all details of a particular package to make it as real as FS will allow, but as you know that takes a tremendous amount of time and effort. PMDG has shown us some incredible detailed work already like the fuel drain on the APU! I've never seen that type of attention to detail for such a system. We asked about the flaps being a *tad* to long and they had them fixed right away. So give these guys a little time to work out all those little details, I know it's all going to work together in the end. Sound I believe is a more easy aspect compared to writing the code for the FMC etc. While striving for realism certainly should be the goal, one must keep in mind that some items *might* be overdone (like gear extension noise) and others not replicated enough. I am very glad that PMDG will not stop it's work on this package once it's released although i'm sure the guys will take a well earned break, but like has been said here many times By Robert and team, this is only the beginning of what we can expect. What I desire from the bird at it's release is a well tuned machine, waiting for it's next wax job......[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. hi randy!well i dont know if a fmc code is so much more difficult to proramm than the sound!maybe you are right , but i think that the sound is more a fine accurate work. Chosse the right take after you recorded them and programm them very well. FMC work is more technically difficult. I'm a musician i think i know a bit of the technic they use(of course i am not that pro:)) but i think there are many things that are so little to do and they are really not that difficult. The fact is that many things ARE only seen from outside and i do not fly with that view, i think most of all flightsimmers do not fly that way. So the cockpit is important (thats my opinion). And the panel ...well yes ,i think DF panel is better(compare the panel bmp). I like more the photoreal panel. The semi photoreal is also ok, but the synthetic panel like the pmdg (i think so) is not very good. I sat a few times on the captains seat and i think its not the best they could have done, but again i didn't fly the pmdg 737NG and so i do not know what its like!Fuel Drain on APU is really cool...but a complete rumbleeffect in the sound would be cooler!:)GreetingsSamwww.airberlin.com
