July 5, 200322 yr I'm having difficulty getting the 737 to take off at Luton Airport (UK) as it seems to need the full runway length and max thrust, flaps at 5, and won't rotate below 150+ knots. No passengers but full fuel tanks (i.e. easyJet -700 default set up) and Luton runway length is 7087 feet.If the take-off speed is correct, is the acceleration too slow?Any help/comments appreciated.Toni.
July 5, 200322 yr Good Afternoon,I am taking it you are taking off using Auto Thrust? When you programme the FMC are you using any reduced thrust? Even so the aircraft should manage to get off the ground. Maybe check that you have armed Speed Breaks - but they are not up, that could slow the aircraft and/or destroy the lift from the wings.Do you have the same problem with that aircraft at other airports apart from London Luton?Let me knowWarm RegardsKimberly
July 5, 200322 yr Hi KimberleyThanks for the response.Speed brakes are off and I'm doing manual take-offs (i.e. no FMC/Autothrust.)Happens everywhere, but very noticeable at Luton as it's a slightly shorter runway than Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted for example...Any ideas?Toni.(p.s. enjoy the trip to Greece (Kos?) this evening....)
July 5, 200322 yr What are your elevator trim settings? Try +5 (middle of the green). You may be trimmed nose down and needing a LOT of air across the elevator to get her off.. Mike B.
July 5, 200322 yr Check your trim before takeoff. The FMC TAKEOFF page shows the trim setting (typically 5.25 for me) and verify this setting on the throttle panel.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
July 5, 200322 yr Hey Toni,So you still cant get off the ground, DOH.hope you have better luck tonight.Miss you all already ;) , wave to me if you see a BY B762 pass your window.Chat laterKimberly.
July 5, 200322 yr Hi All,I too am having the same challanges, I think. From Phoenix to LAX. Take-Off runway 25R. Total aircraft weight was 129.3. V1=117, VR=120, V2=131. These are the V speeds that are given in the FMC when you click the LSK that correspond with the V1, VR, and V2.The trims were set to 5.25 and 5.25 on the Throttle. At VR pull back yoke and I'm not actually getting off the ground until just after the V2 audible call out. Is this normal?Anything abnormal with what I'm doing or seeing? Are the takeoff speeds correct? Thanks for your help.Brian G
July 5, 200322 yr I would say this aircraft has got the acceleration down the runway just right. Nice and slow start to the roll and then greater acceleration.I just did Luton to Manchester at full weight and got off three quarters of the way down the runway (26). Make sure you have up trim set and make sure you havn't set a lower thrust setting on the init pages in the FMC.This planes reverse thrust and braking are set very nice too.Ray Keattch
July 5, 200322 yr Hey Pilots,Takeoff is possible with Flaps 25 :-)pull smooth when reaching VR 2-3 Degrees per second ;-) not too fastand do not exceed +15 Bank angle until you reach V2+15Very important in case of Engine Failure.See youTill
July 5, 200322 yr Commercial Member Toni,As most people noted already trim setting is essential. Use between 5 1/2 to 5 3/4 units for the -700. Also take into account that realistic engine spool up time is accurately modelled...Cheers,Vangelis===================================== E. M. July 5, 200322 yr Thanks everyone - as you suggested, the problem was a wrong trim setting....That said, is this a nice plane or what?Well done PMDG!!!Toni.
