September 16, 200322 yr Hey guys!!Just a procedural question... when is the appropriate time to disconnect the A/P and A/T during an Autoland approach?? I seem to recall reading tutorials with different procedure. One procedure called for disengaging the A/P via the engagement bar on the MCP just prior to touchdown (in flare). Another mentioned disconnecting the A/P and A/T after roll-out and stowing of the thrust reversers. Anybody know how it's actually done??Thanks!!Flightsim Phil
September 16, 200322 yr Commercial Member Well you won't ever ever disconnect the Autoflight system in flare...OuchPilots will disconnect the autopilot as soon as they want to vacate the runway. If the autoland was for practise (good weather) this can be at quite a high speed as the crew will try to take a highspeed turnoff. In bad weather you might vacate the runway at the end and then the AP can be kept engaged for the entire taxi down the runway. Just remember to disconnect the AP before vacating as otherwise you'll end up fighting it (it will try to maintain the centerline). Also, note that the localizer is at the far end of the runway, and the closer you get the more sensitive it becomes...As a ballpark figure use 40 kts or shortly after stowing the reversers. The A/T disconnects as soon as you apply reverse thrust.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
September 16, 200322 yr Phil,- the AT will disconnect after 2 seconds after touchdown, after having gone to idle at a few feet above runway. This is so to make it possible to GA after having just landed by the simple action of TOGA button (screw) or N1 MCP button...- the AP will not disconnect itself on its own. So you can disconnect it when you have time to do so when on ground. When you did, recycle the FD, this will disengage active pitch and roll modes.CheersanthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com
