INITIAL CLIMB ALT LEVEL OFF

Featured Replies

Just seems to me that 737NG has difficulties to level off at initial altitude after take off...whatever vertical mode you set on MCP(tried v/s, vnav, flch...) after TO and engaging autopilot...If for exemple you set 3000ft as initial climb in MCP...after take off 737NG almost never levels off at the set altitude. She first goes to about 3500-3700 ft(sometimes further!) and then after descends back to 3000ft...Don't know if it has been noticed by someone else before(?)...Your aircraft will be "The Bombay"!!!!Cheers, Fritz

Hi Fritz,- What is your departure airport alt ? If for instance you depart at 1450 ft, auto thrust red to CLB will happen by default at 2950 ft...- did you try R-CLB thrust ?cheers, anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com

I had already posted on this.It happens even if I depart from LIRF at 14feet msl, set initial MCP ALT to 5000feet for the SID, THR reduction alt is standard 1500feet, but under 10.000feet the plane has a real hard time leveling off in either mode as described above. If you set other ALT in the MCP above 10.000 it levels off ok, I guess the lower rate of climbs allow for the A/P to have more precise response. It is quiet frustrating though below 10.000feet. Especially flying online where you do get initial altitudes, whereas with AI ATC mybe some don't notice it because you get cleared directly to your CRZ altitude.Anyway, I never got an answer to my previous post on this, but glad to hear now that it's not only me that has noticed this.Regards,Bjorn

Same story for different airports and altitudes...EGLL, KATL, KORD,...Even tried R-CLB Thrust...>>- What is your departure airport alt ? If for instance you depart at 1450 ft, auto thrust red to CLB will happen by default at 2950 ft...Will try with diffrent thust reduction altitudes...Like Bjorn says, seems to only happen below 10000ft...Will do some tests and post later today, thanx for quick reply...Fritz

I also confirm that I always use R/TO and CLB2 on all my takeoffs. Regards,Bjorn

Just tried several TOs with different settings (R-TO, R-CLB) at different locations (LIEO, EGLL, KATL, KTPA...)...and with the same thrust reduction altitude...Same ol'story...The bird has a really hard time intercepting the right altitude the right way...under 10000ft...and after TOsMaybe over-powered, maybe too light...Don't know...Best regards.Fritz
