737 NG overpowered?

Featured Replies

HelloAfter 35 testflights i have one question: Is the Airacft Overpowered?Ok let me summary:737-700 ZFW: 45,7 to Fuel 6,5toIn VNAV Mode with N1 derated-2 I have in FL 210 a VS 3000ft/min and IAS 315....hm strange (with no winds)After takeoff climbing from 3000ft until FL100 he climb in VNAV with 5000-6000ft/min and that is not normal, all in derated-2.And next in FL 300 with same load config, climb with 3200ft/min to FL370 without any speed lost.Yesterday i flown in real 737-700 and spoken with the Capt. and FO and I told my observation during my testflights and he insure me that this behavior are not normal....I dont know what i shoud think, but any other observation??Adjust manualy N1 would be great, otherwise in VNAV Mode he always use all limits...and hm on FL320 with VS around 3000ft is normalAny comments would be greatBut my overall impression is very great about this product...

hi therei also have the impression that the 737 is a little more powerful than i thought it actually is in RL. my testflight had pretty the same weight as yours, and until FL200 i had a v/s of 4000 ft/min and more. sure looks strange. up on FL330 in 12 minutes? c'mon, that can't be right, right? i experianced this to take around 20 minutes, passing FL100 on climb a around 4 minutes, not 2 (jumpseatflights).same on final: i have problems to slow down the aircraft, even with idle thrust. and my descent through FL100 was a catasrophy. even with spoilers out i couldn't hold the speed restriction of 250 knots. i was way to fast. my flight was full, so very heavy. taking back the thrust should break the thing a lot...maybe someone can "configure" or "modify" some *.cfg or *.air files to take away some power of the 737....what do RL pilots think about it?greets, stu

Hi guys,I've been under the impression that the NG is overpowered and has a rather steep rate of climb. According to these climb charts 12 minutes to FL370 at a break release weight of approx 50 metric tons is in the right ball park.EDIT: Seems I mixed up your figures guys ;-) But you can see that 12 minutes up to FL330 is spot on!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/33388.jpgAlso the NG is known to be "slippery" (Don't know the right english term for this. Literally translated from swedish ;-)) on descent. You have to plan your descent carefully, and well in advance.Regards,

Hi Stu,>full, so very heavy. taking back the thrust should break the>thing a lot...Not true, there is no large braking effect with idle thrust as the airframe is designed to have low drag. Use 1nm per 10kts speed reduction as a rough guide. As for heavy weights, well yes you'll have more induced drag but you'll also have more inertia. A heavy aircraft will actually have a lower rate of descent than a lighter aircraft for a given speed. Try it out, it's not at all what you'd expect!Failing to plan a deceleration often catches out real life pilots newly converting to jets as they're used to the braking effect of windmilling propellers on idle throttle.A jet can slow down or descend, but won't do both simultaneously very well.
