PMDG 737 Cockpit

Featured Replies

HiI was just looking through airliners.net and could not find any 737NG cockpits which had the same CRT screen display layout as the one you have for the 737-600/700 cockpit in the screenshots on your site. The 2 pictures below show the 2 737NG cockpit display layouts.http://www.airliners.net/open.file/379873/L/andhttp://www.airliners.net/open.file/297858/L/The first photo has a full PFD on the far left screen, full ND on the next screen to the right, and in the centre has an EICAS display. In the second photo, it is more based on the 737 Classics I think although using a glass cockpit. There is a more split PFD showing a different display to photo 1's PFD, ND split with a DME display/IAS/ or VS/alt dep depending on the F/O or Captains side, and in the centre display is a different style EICAS to photo 1.With the PMDG 737 cockpit screenshots on the website and in the screenshot forum, I see that there is the PFD and ND from photo 1, but the EICAS display from photo 2. I searched on airliners.net etc and couldn't find any of the 737-600/700/800/900's with this format. Is the PMDG 737 cockpit based on a specific 737NG that doesn't follow this?I hope you undersatand what I'm getting at :)CheersTim Glithero

HiThe bit I mean is that if you look at the photo links you have just posted, the PFD and ND are the same as the PMDG 737, but the EICAS isn't. The EICAS is from the other 737 screen display format...The PMDG EICAS is this onehttp://www.airliners.net/open.file/297858/L/But the PMDG PFD and ND are from the different cockpit screen displayshttp://www.airliners.net/open.file/379873/L/It is hard to explain what I mean!:( Tim

Im almost certain that you can change the look of the Primary Flight Display... All the schwithes that is sitting over and under the PFD i mean you can change the look of the displays..Regards Jacob Thomsen

Hi TimI think this is the two basic airline options available. I know some carriers wanted the NG to look like the Classic 737 so that pilots trained on the Classic could transition to the NG with nearly no type training at all. That is what is depicted in the first of your pictures. The other option is what's shown on your second picture. For carriers that didn't need to transition from the Classic or didn't mind the extra cost or whatever.PMDG decided on a mix between these two for their initial release. It's hard to fit the dual EICAS screens AND the PFD and ND on one computer screen. But I think both options will be availible once the 800/900 is released. At least both options for the EICAS will be.Correct me if I'm wrong... :-hmmmRegards

HiAh ha I see - thanks for clearing that up! :)CheersTim

Absolutely correct!! I had occasion a couple of years ago to spend 20 minutes in a 737-700 simulator at Southwest Airlines training facility in Dallas. They are one of the airlines (Continental being another) that have chosen the "EFIS" option for their displays (as opposed to the "PFD/ND" option). The thinking is that pilots transitioning from the EFIS or non-EFIS equipped "Classic" series of 737's would require considerably less re-training in order to fly the NG versions. Other airlines (Delta, American, ALaska) have gone with the PFD option. BTW, the displays are programmed via software and cannot be switched between versions on the fly in the cockpit. The switches referred to on the lower part of the main panel are "reversion" switches which allow the pilots to move the diplays between the various CRT's in case of a screen failure, e.g. the pilot can combine the PFD & ND on one screen and move it to the center if his main PFD screen fails in flight.Flightsim Phil
