Speed Tape goes to zero

Featured Replies

Hi thereNot sure if this has been brought up before (I did do a search but found nothing much related) But I've been trying out some 3hr+ flights the last couple of days and Ive been having my Speed Tape indicator go to nothing (well 30kt) and also at the same time my FMC then shows no fuel readouts. The flight still continues on LNav but the controll of the speed is impossible even when switching to Speed instead of VNav.The speed problem I've confirmed by using FS Flightkeeper and that shows 0 in the speed colum but it does show fuel still being burnt off.The first 3 times this happened was approx 2hrs 30 mins into the flight with the flights being EGCC to GCRR, KBFI to KORD & KORD to CYYT. I've rerun the KORD to CYYT and the same thing happened but only 37mins into flight which is the fastest I've been able to get this bug to replicate.I've put a screen shot with this so you can see better what I mean. Thanks for your time.Paul Mercer.

make sure you have your anti-icing switches on. that will solve the problem.justin p.

Ok thanks..I'll Give that a try in a while and see how she goes.Paul

Hi there, using pitot heat will not solve the problem in this case, it's an FS bug. Note that Mach, TAS and GS indicators still work (if the pitot tube was frozen over, they wouldn't). If you press Shift+Z, you'll see that your airspeed is displayed as 0kts. If it was a pitot failure, it would still indicate your correct airspeed. The problem is weather-related, and can occur on all complex aircraft when flying through fog/haze or thick cloud. The only difference between PMDG and other aircraft (such as RFP, PSS etc) is that while it occurs very rarely with the other planes, it happens nearly every time you fly through fog in the PMDG 737. The good news is that A/T Mach hold will still work (you need to diconnect the A/T, then reconnect), and the speed indicator will come back eventually.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Ok I'll Remember that.I looked back though my logs and sure enough the Probe heat section was on all the time even when I had the problems. That being said for some weird reason I've just managed to do the KORD to CYYT flight with no problem and that was with Weather Centre running live all the time and flying through some bad turbulance nearly all the way. Sometimes you just can't figure it can you!! :-roll The only thing that I did different from any other flight was to switch on the wing and engine anti-ice as soon as at FL330. Maybe that just gave it the kick it needed! (there again watch it fail next time!)Paul
