Thrust reversers

Featured Replies

Hi there. I think this may be more related to FS than PMDG, but as it's effecting my flying of the 737, and there's a high level of knowledge in this forum, I thought I'd ask. I've searched the other forums, and it seems to be a problems others have, but answers are short. On landing, when I engage F2 for the thrust reversers, they come on momentarily, then go off again. I've tried keeping the key pressed, pressing many times, etc., and the reversers just keep popping on and off. I've tried assigning F2 to another key, in case it was that key not working, but same thing.Am I doing something wrong? Thanks,Mike

press only one time ,don't hold key move throttles fwd to disingage

You might have "joystick" noise disengaging the reversers. Make sure your throttle is in a null zone, which can be set up with FSUIPC (full version). I usually do a single F1 then a single F2 and get full reverse.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Hi Lee, thank you for the suggestion (and thank you, too, Robert). I've looked at FSUIPC (I have the full registered version), on the "Joysticks" page, but don't know what those throttle numbers mean. I assume these are what need to be adjusted to cancel the noise. Can you tell me what to do, to ensure the joystick throttle is in a null zone? Sorry for the bother. Many thanks,Mike

.... I've tried setting new values in the throttle axis, as indicated in the FSUIPC user's guide, and have inserted a "dead zone" at the idle end of the throttle motion, with the result that now, when pressing F2, the "REV" engine indicator shows yellow, and the noise of thrust reverse happens, but N1 thrust itself does not increase and visually the reversers open just a crack. So, progress, but not enough...Mike

Well, I seem to have found a solution, although I'm not sure how elegant this is. Apparently FSUIPC assigns the mixture lever axis to the reverser function in jets, if so desired, so, using FSUIPC, I have assigned 'mixture idle cutoff' to the button on my joystick closest to the throttle, and so far, so good. Full reverse thrust on demand.:-)Thanks for getting me rolling in the right direction, and if anyone else has this problem, this seems to work. Thanks again, Mike

Mike,Using FSUIPC you can set a null zone that will allow you to use the Thrust reversers via joystick. This is described in the FSUIPC manual. If you can find it let me know and I will walk you through it.

Ok, I spoke too soon. What worked on the ground, and in high-speed taxi tests, did not work in the air. So, any help would be appreciated. Cuyler, I'd be interested. I've read the FSUIPC user's guide, and tried to use that when I made the first mods, but there's clearly something I'm not getting. Thanks,Mike

"Ok, I spoke too soon. What worked on the ground, and in high-speed taxi tests, did not work in the air. "Shouldn't 737NG reversers only work on the ground (give or take 10 feet/ 3 meters Radio Altitude)?Another interlock is the Fire Handle. A Reverser should not operate if the respective Fire Handle has been pulled.Cheers.Ian.

Ian is sooo right. You know what happens if you were able to en-gage reversers in flight? It would case the airflow to flow in front of the wing causing lift that leads to stalling + rolling etc and you would then enter a uncontrollable nosedive. Not a pretty sight. The AMBER is telling you that the the reversers are moving into REV position, then they go green. You must HOLD the button down untill it goes GREEN and then release.[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Oops, I didn't mean to imply that I was trying to deploy the reversers while flying, that's just my distracted brain and poor penmanship at work. I meant, while it was stationary on the ground.I will check that the F2 key isn't repeating itself, hadn't thought of that...I used FSUIPC again to reset the throttle axis, according to the min/max indicated by thejoystick. Then I flew, and in order to better observe, let the plane do an autoland. Once on the ground, hit F2, and the reversers deployed perfectly. So, I'm not sure if resetting the throttle parametres did that, but will try again with a more usual manual landing tomorrow. One thing I did notice, was that while the plane will still taxi at idle, it's slightly less likely to go too quickly, in fact it seems better now - don't have to use the brakes so often.Thank you for the suggestions and corrections.Mike
