September 7, 200322 yr Overall I think you guysdid a great job...., but I found a few bugs and hoping for some thoughts about it...1. During climb the FMC has to be in the Climb page to receive accurate VNAV information..my airspeed drop to 260 IAS in VNAV while the fmc speed was 320 IAS.2. Altitude level off are very aggresive on the autopilot...3. During descent...the DES NOW prompt was use to descend, but the annuciation on the FMA was wrong,it remain in VNAV PTH, should've been VNAV SPD with descend rate between 1000-1200fpm..4. Another problem was trying to get the CRUISE page after descent, you should be able to go back to the CRUISE page and change the CRZ ALT...5. How come you don't have a COM/NAV selector....for instance if I like to transmit on COM2 it should be possible, this is necessary when using Radar Contact..Well just a few thoughts...Thanks for listening..
September 7, 200322 yr Hello Joseph! Glad to have you here. Let me see if I can help on a couple here. 1] I am not sure I understand. 320 is not ECON CLB SPD and 260 is slower than MX ANGLE so I am not sure what's going on. Better if you explain what you set and other details of your climb. 2] This seems to be more pronouced in FS9 than FS2002 although the real NG's A/P is known for it's *agressive* level offs-pitching. 3] In a VNAV PTH descent, the FMA PITCH is VNAV PTH. In a SPD descent the FMA goes VNAV SPD. I am checking the DES NOW part right now. 4] I think you are correct on this. 5] Don't know what the plans are on this, it has been talked about many times on the forum so will let PMDG tell us what their plans are. September 8, 200322 yr "3. During descent...the DES NOW prompt was use to descend, but the annuciation on the FMA was wrong,it remain in VNAV PTH, should've been VNAV SPD with descend rate between 1000-1200fpm.."Hi, Joseph... According to the 737NG FMC Users Guide, the Smiths FMC with software 10.3 will only revert to VNAV SPD if you leave the LNAV path (say, using HDG SEL) and your crosstrack error exceeds two times the RNP (Required Nav Performance). Otherwise it will stay in VNAV PTH during DES NOW ops. Ref page 158 for those who have the latest copy. With software 10.4, PATH does not revert to speed with any amount of crosstrack error. I assume this is valid for software later than this (?).Of course, you shouldn't believe everything you read :-)Cheers.Ian.
September 8, 200322 yr Hello Randy, thz for your reply....let me expand on question # 11. The aircraft was in VNAV climbing to FL370, ECON spd with cost index of 90% was 320/.760 the airplane was climbing in VNAV SPD at 320 IAS..@ 170 I went to the legs page to do something, then I noticed @210 the IAS had dropped to @264 kts when I went back to the climb page it fixed itself around FL260 to the right speed. Well my observation is VNAV doesn't work well when you change the fmc page from the CLB page...Hope this works for you now..2. The real aircaft is not that bad...been on the jumpseat on the American -800 many times...3. I fly the 767/757 and I know the difference between VNAV PTH and VNAV SPD, when DES NOW is used for starting an unplanned descent which means your TOD has not been reached..VNAV SPD should be the annuciated mode (1000-1200fpm)untill TOD then it will change to VNAV PTH. This was not the case..with PMGD 737 when I used the DES NOW prompt..Hope this helps...
September 8, 200322 yr Just checked the DES NOW. It will command a 1000 FPM until intercepting the calculated path descent and stay VNAV PTH. This does not apply to DES NOW in a SPD descent. In a SPD descent it will not follow any path... The FMC model here on the NG is U10.4, the 757-767 DES NOW FMA anunications-modes are not the same as the NG.EDIT: Joseph, of course I knew who you were! Was always a treat to see your pictures posted on the PIC forum ;) I made one of the landing panels for PIC...[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. September 8, 200322 yr Thanks Ian, I have a 737 manaul here, I'll check it out...guess the software might be diffferent from the 767/757....Thanks..
September 8, 200322 yr Thanks again Randy,.....Just checked my Boeing manual and Ian is right the 737 DES NOW is totally different from the 767/757 FMC/FMA..It will always do a VNAN PTH des....unless you are using Speed intervention.......Thanks IAN and Randy....Oh by the way I've got some more pictures but haven't got to time to post them...maybe nest weekend..
