Hi Guys,If ATC give you an instruction to descend to FL180 to be level 40 miles before XXX.How do you go about inputting the descent restriction 40NM before the waypoint? Thanks,Stephen

StephenOne way of doing this would be to enter a fix at XXX with a 40NM radius and then use V/S descent mode with the green descent prediction arc on the ND to arrive at this point at the required altitude.I guess another way would be to enter a pseudo waypoint into the Legs page with an altitude restriction on it, but I don't know how to do this. I'm sure somebody else does.

Hum it's been awhile but I will give it a shot here. Bring up the LEGS page. Line select the waypoint they instructed, this will place it into the CDU SCRATCHPAD. Say now we have selected FOSTI. What we need to do is add /-40 so now we have FOSTI/-40 in the scratchpad. Then line select the LEFT LSK ajacent to FOSTI. This should create a waypoint 40 miles PRIOR to and should name it FOSTI01. Now manually set the altitude for this waypoint on the RIGHT LSK ajacent to the new waypoint. [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Thanks guys I will give it a go.Stephen

Both techniques are good. I personally prefer the xxxx/40 xxxx/-40 because you would still have VNAV guidance and the green arc would be difficult if wind is encoundered.A third option would be to create a fix (For reference, you would have to fly it by yourself > VS).Click on FIX . > Brings up FIX Page on FMC.FOWEE130/40Best,Bruno Francescoli.

I include a hold at this point as well, so I use a different technique to define the waypoint as XXXXRAD/DISTANCE.

Hi Guys,Thanks for the replies. Timothy I look forward to your Advanced Ops Tutorial. Regards,Stephen
