September 9, 200322 yr In PS1 one usually (always?) enter the arrival airport as the last waypoint in the route. Prior to descent when one chooses a runway and STAR the airport waypoint is automatically changed into the correct waypoints for whatever runway one chose. Is this something that can/should be done in the B737NG FMC, or is it more "modern" and uses the ARR airport from the RTE page for it /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
September 9, 200322 yr This is what I can find:If you enter and execute a new DEST airport, Rwy and dependant procedures (also the active leg if present), will be cleared. If you initiate a missed approach, the departure airport becomes the origin, in order to choose a SID, which is only found on the FMC left side. For the FMC to engage, it needs 3 WP`s: Origin, Dest and TO. Looks like our FMC are using the ARR airport.
September 10, 200322 yr "In PS1 one usually (always?) enter the arrival airport as the last waypoint in the route."Although it helps the Honeywell FMC make better predictions, I have seen one or two of our Company Routes without the airport ICAO being the last waypoint (in one of these cases, however, the last waypoint was a VOR at the airport, so it wouldn't have affected the calculations). Most of our 747/767 routes begin with the departure and arrival airport ICAO's. "Prior to descent when one chooses a runway and STAR the airport waypoint is automatically changed into the correct waypoints for whatever runway one chose."This is a feature of the Honeywell box. However, I haven't yet tried this on the Smiths (737) box. Note that you may still need to remove Route Discontinuities, depending on your Co Route and the SID/STAR (if there are no common waypoints, you could have problems). September 10, 200322 yr Ian, I don`t know if this maybe helps:ORIGIN and DEST is required, but if not found in database it can be created on the REF NAV DATA page. Also after entering the REF airport, I directly load my flightplan, and the takeoff airport becomes the ORIGIN airport. That way I save myself from pushing one extra button :( Maybe this (loading of Co routes) is the reason ORIGIN is dashed, but not DEST. I find one drawing confirming this in the manual.
September 11, 200322 yr "...but if not found in database it can be created on the REF NAV DATA page."Thanks, Andrew....Sounds like a useful function (that the Honeywell box doesn't have). I was trying to fly from Rekjavik to an airport in the Faroe Islands yesterday and this function would have come in very handy (Currently reading about it in the Bulfer book)."Also after entering the REF airport, I directly load my flightplan, and the takeoff airport becomes the ORIGIN airport." I may have to do a bit more reading to understand this part ;-) I'm not sure I understand the distinction between a "takeoff airport" and an "ORIGIN airport"? :-hmmmAnyway, thanks for the pointers.Cheers.Ian.
September 11, 200322 yr Hehe, lets say the departure airport in the flightplan becomes the ORIGIN. I used my own words instead of quoting, I better quote next time, arrrghh :-lol
