missing night textures... is this the way it should look?

Featured Replies

dear PMDG-team,i postet this question already a while ago, but i'm now pretty sure that i miss the night lightning on my 737.for some reason it doesn't show at night, although i can view the BMP file itself in the texture folder. there i can see the light reflections of the landing lights on the fuselage as well as illuminated passenger windows... but i can't see them in my FS2K2.i upload a screenshot, standing at the gate at EDDS. you can see all lights (taxi, landing, position, wing etc.) are switched on, but the fuselage is dark. also i don't see the logo lightened.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/38718.jpgthis is a 737-700 in Hamburg International livery. I've heared that not all liveries provide logo-lighning and i don't know if this airline does. but i guess the fuselage should be some more lightened, right?thanks for support and replies, stu

Stu,there was a texture problem with some of the initial liveries which have been corrected with the current versions. If the version you are using was from the initial release then re-downloading the current livery from the web site will correct this. If this condition exsist with the current downloaded version then we'll work with you to get the lights to show.:-spacecraft

thanks petei recently downloaded some liveries (like the virgin blue, SAS, HLX and others) from your download-page. none of them show the night textures.but i'll try once again, just to be 100% sure and then post the results here.greets, stu

Stu,If you have >Pilot Controls Lights< selected in your FS menu, then switch to the overhead panel and look for the light switch. It should be about dead center. See if turning that on allows you to see your lights.:-spacecraft

hi again...1. i downloaded another livery (Jet Airways) and tested it again. as my screenshot shows, there are still no night textures on the fuselage. pay attention to the engine textures: they do show reflections of the landing-lights!!! if you look sharp, you can see the "normal" day-texture of the livery, just appearing dark. so i guess somehow it fails to load the ***_t.bmp night-textures when it's night. what could the problem be? any idea?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/38754.jpg2. i was aware of the overhead light switch. as i said (and as my screenshots may show), all lights are on! (panel, position, wing, taxi and so on). only the textures on the fuselage are wrong.hope you understand what i mean...thanks,stu

Stu,are you using FS2K2 or FS9?Can you see any lights on the PMDG 737-600 or 700 House liveries? Can you see any lights on any default FS9 Aircraft? Can you check your Jet Airways(India) texture folder for the PMDG_700_fuse_L, and PMDG_Wing_L files?:-spacecraft

Pete,- i'm using FS2K2.- NO lights on the -600 -700 house liveries.- i can see lights on other aircraft (like the PSSA3XX), but no light-textures on my default 777. does it have one? i never used it. i don't like the MS default planes...:-)- all files in the texture folder are OK. as i said, i can view them on photoshop, and see the illuminated windows and ll-reflections...thank you for taking time...stu

Stu,can you try something for me, since you are using FS02, you should have Image tool, open the night textures in that, and convert them to DTX3 (all night textures are 32 bit), I know some video cards have problems showing 32 bit/DTX3 textures, and this just *may* be what's happening to you.Regards,Bob JonesPrecision Manuals Development [email protected]

hii opened the file with image tool, but did'n find a "DTX3" convert option. i'm not familiar with this stuff, so i simply tried to change the taxtures to 24 bit.but that didn't bring up the lightning in the FS. if it's what you meant (changing from 32 to 24 bit), it's not working.if you were talking about something else, please explain again...thx,stuPS: this 32 bit problem seems not to happen with the night texture of the engines, cause they are shown...i use a GeForce 4 MX 440 with 45.23 driver

Stu,open Image tool, select the night bmp, goto Image/Format/DTX3Changing the bmp's from 32 bit to 24 bit won't do anything, FS02 doesn't recognise 24 bit textures, as for the engines, the light splash on them is hard coded into the MDL.Regards,Bob JonesPrecision Manuals Development [email protected]

hi pete, well, i tried what you suggested. first, image tool didn't have a DTX3 option. then i realized that i have two image tool apps on my machine (dunno why), and the other one had a DTX3 mode.here's what happened:the first image tool version showed the night textures normally. now, the "right" version don't show the textures, just the landing light splash, until i changed to DTX3 mode. there i could see the lightened windows too. looked pretty good, and i thought "this is it".but unfortunately, i still don't get night lighning on the fuselage. i tried several liveries, but no success.my next step will be a reinstallation of my graphic card driver, but i don't expext that to do the trick. if you can't figure out what the problem is, the final try will be a complete reinstallation of my FS2K2, and all the add-ons i use... i think my FS is pretty messed up as i installed and removed dozends of add-ons i tested etc.we'll see. i'll wait for some further suggestions though.thanks, stu

hi again, pete...i solved the problem. sometimes you can't see the woods because of the trees...it wasn't the driver or the system or the textures. the reason why i didn't see anything was much more simple.i don't like to see the landing lights from the cockpit on the runway, they are quite confusing and don't really help me to land.SO I HAD THEM TURNED OFF!!! (...display/aircraft/landinglights...).suddenly i had the idea to try to turn them ON again. and voil

Yes, I mentioned something like that in my message #3. That was assuming you were using FS9. Glad you were able to get the lights back on.:-spacecraft
